always call. they usually give you a different date to come in on so that they're prepared and what not...
BUT! i did the same thing my first time going to fight a ticket and there was no court... the lady at the counter gave me a new court date tho... i think that will keep you from getting a warrent

Not sure if they changed it or not but there should be some fine print on the ticket that says if you plan on challenging the ticket you have I think 7 or 14 days to call the court and tell them you're pleading not guilty and they'll give you a court date, otherwise you're guilty by default. Happened to me once so I always call a day or two later now

Yes, if you plan on pleading not guilty, you have to call 7 days in advance. I've seen that written on the back of every ticket I've ever had my hands on in NJ.

this, been ticketed plenty of times and had to call every time to get on the court calender. its how the system works. you could have asked to been placed on the calender for next available session if you still wanted to do that.

Once a ticket is written, the Officer cannot throw it out...

Hackensack did that to me once, said "no thats the due by date, not the court date, you have to call for that" so then I learned my lesson

yeah new jersey doesnt do ''fix it'' tickets. in cali if you got a ticket for something on your car that can be fixed, you get it fixed, take the ticket to any cop in the jurisdiction and prove you fixed it, theyll sign off on it and its a 10 dollar fine
the only thing that cop can do for you is go to court and tell the prosecutor to lessen the offense.

im looking at my ticket book right now.... "3. PLEA OF NOT GUILTY: If you wish to plead NOT GUILTY, you must notify the court at the address and telephone number shown below at least 7 DAYS PRIOR to the court date listed on the front of this ticket. If you fail to notify the court, it may be necessary for you to make additional court appearances" etc etc.... that's the protocol

on a side note, i did notice once when i got a blinker ticket and forgot about it and forgot to call, i showed up to court on the day that was listed. they called off the names of people scheduled on the docket and when my name wasnt called i showed the prosecutor the ticket and explained the situation and he was very cool with me, noted that i showed and told me that another reminder will be in the mail with a new scheduled court date.
honesty works a whole hell of a lot

Not for a cell phone ticket. I called them to see how much the fine was, and they just said to send in the money. The box saying that you had to appear was not checked on the ticket.

You need to call if you want to contest it. If you wanted to contest that you were not on the phone, you would have called, told them you were contesting it, and they would have put you on the court calendar and sent you a notice.

If you really wanted to you could get your call / text message logs from the carrier and prove that there was no activity at the time the cop pulled you over. You would likely have to have a large gap in time there to make it stick, but I could see it happening.

mmmm i dont buy it.. could have been using a different phone... GUILTY!

yea, that is worth a shot, but could be shot-down easily because the nj statute stated "operating an electronic device" so it could be interpreted and is interpreted as even scrolling through your phone, looking at pis on your phone, not necessarily communicating or making a call/text with it. just using it period. basically
