It should be, that's the only team they can beat in the 1st round...and no I'm not disrespecting the Devils, the Flyers have played them strong all year.
The Flyers still aren't a great team, Devils in 7.

Is the hockey draft not strong anymore? Wouldnt you rather the team miss the playoffs to get a better draftpick if they have no chance of winning it? Everyone is all over the Eagles for not winning the superbowl and the flyers have been doing the same thing for the past 15 yrs. At least the SIxers who didnt make the playoffs this year for the 1st time in 3 or 4 years should get a top 7 pick in the draft.
Frosty
04-13-2010, 10:05 AM
IMO you never want to miss the playoffs in order to get a draft pick. Your goal is to win, period.

SO then why is this area so over Andy Reid and Mcnabb? All they did together was win and get in the Playoffs!! I never felt that they would win a Superbowl ( I felt that way pretty much for all the past Eagles teams also) but I also dont feel that the Flyers have a chance to win it all either!! I agree with you that I would rather have a team make the playoffs and at least try to win then to tank it just to rebuild!!
Frosty
04-13-2010, 11:00 AM
This area is all over them because we're starving for more championships, but lets face it...a lot of Eagles fans are idiots...they're not football fans, they're just Eagles fans.
The Flyers won't make a serious run either(even if they beat the Devils), they're just not that great of a team.
Regardless, I'd still rather see any team make the playoffs than have an early tee time.

I think despite the regular season stats between the Flyers and Devils, I think NJ has a good chance against the Flyers, though it will take 6 or 7 games to complete the series. Being the playoffs, both teams will step up their play, so it's not a matter of effort level, it'll come down to finesse.
Both teams can be physical, but I think the Flyers have the edge.
Both teams have skilled shooters, but I think NJ has the edge.
The key will be NJ's lessons learned from playing the Rangers last year. NJ got pounded last year because they didn't have the physical presence to work the boards and stay in front of the crease. If they learned anything from that, they'll be able to combine that experience with their finesse to win. If not, it'll come down to the hotter goalie.
I haven't seen how healthy Philly is, but NJ has everyone back (as I recall), with a few games in them going into tomorrow.
Definately looking forward to this!

The Devils are definitely the favorite, there's no question about that. However it should bet a good series...can't wait to hear the MAAAAARTY chants coming from the seats.
Philly is healthy aside from their goaltending. Emery went down, then Leighton went down, hell even Boucher AND his back up had injuries this year. Yes, the Flyers have 4 goalies out with injuries. Boucher, the #3 is healthy and playing well so we'll see.
The Flyers have a shot but it won't be surprising if the Devils win the series.

Devils will win in 5
brodeur has let up 7 goals in the last 7 games, and kovalchuk has 27 points in 27 games with the devils.
Frosty
04-13-2010, 10:10 PM
5?
The Flyers have lit up Marty all year and held Kovalchuk to like 1 point...
Now that doesn't mean the same will happen but as a Devils fan I wouldn't be too comfortable playing the Flyers....I still think the Devils will win the series but it won't be a cake walk.

Philly played ok, but not their best. They certainly dominated physically as we knew they would, and they lacked in the scoring chances, as we knew they would. However, in the end, they scored the two goals. Kudos to them.
The Devils.... looked like a bag of hammered dog ****. They got manhandled off the boards and in front of the crease, they couldn't make passes or take well placed shots (yeah, thats hockey 101 there guys), and they looked truly desperate with the last 11 minutes of the game. There was little cohesion, no shot or pass discipline, and no apparent communication. Just 4 lines of five guys, all doing their own thing.
What... the... **** just happened here? Someone in the locker room mentioned the word "playoff" and they forgot how to play the damn game. :-?
I hope Lemaire kicks some major ass tonight.

Neither team played "great".
BTW Burnin....Kovalchuk's 27pts in 27 games sure didn't matter much tonight did it....he looked like it was first NHL game out there...
Game 2 will go to NJ I think.

even though the devils couldnt score no matter how many pp philly gave them, that second goal was bs there was 6 guys on the ice
and yes kolvachuk made me eat my words, and i thought he looked decent out there for most of the game, hen when they went down by 2 he seemed to get desperate and do it all himself. kudos to philly's goalie, he was a wall tonight
its a long series, hopefully lemaire gives them hell, and stevens gives them a good beating

Yeah, that game could have gone either way. I could see the Flyers needed a line change just before that goal was scored. They were all standing around.
Frosty
04-17-2010, 11:06 AM
They got themselves trapped in their own zone WAY too many times. Gotta give credit to the Devils for keeping up the pressure but the Flyers had too many unforced turnovers in their end of the rink.
Game 2 was very exciting. Parise's short-handed goal was awesome

I was. The Bruins definitely need to step up if they want to get much further. The local station said the series' statistics went something along these lines...
Buffalo leading: 139 minutes
Tied: 109 minutes
Boston leading: 19 minutes
:willy: It's a miracle they're up 3-1 in the series

Im not going to comment beyond this - sheer disappointment. Anything else I say will be pure sputtering anger.
I feel bad for Marty...he had a heartless team in front of him all series.
This.
Devils did not deserve to advance even if they had some amazing comeback... the passes were way too sloppy and when they did pass, there was too much of it. Marty, IMO, did great... it was his teammates that didnt put on an offense, nor did they have a good defense. The Devils team that showed up (if that) for the playoffs are NOT the team that played in the regular season. It was almost like they didnt give a **** about Game 4 and 5. Disappointing.

The Flyers just had their number, period. I was way wrong on my prediction, I really thought the Devils would have won the series, I'm shocked that they got steamrolled the way they did. I'm not trying to pour salt on the wound or be arrogant....I'm just really surprised.
Kovalchoke proved to be a bad pick up. The guy doesn't fit that team at all...he tries to do everything himself which was NEVER a Devils philosophy. Your big stars just disappeared. Kovalchoke had 2 goals but one was an empty netter, Parise only had 1, Elias and Langenbrunner had none....not acceptable come playoff time.
