Wow man from the looks at them pictures there is no way that guy is a machinist. There are no tolerance. Non of the bolt holes look even or round for that matter.

My mechanical knowledge is limited at best and even I can tell that work is completely unusable and even I could of done better. I sent that link in a mass email to my family, friends, and shops that I know. If everyone keeps this going I don't see this guy having the opportunity to screw anyone else over. Good heads up.

I don't care f the customer was being irate, his dealing with the situation is childish at best. he's right up there with the hennessey thread years ago. I'm not sure what may have transpired with phone calls and what not, but HE did the poor workmanship, HE needs to get over it, and do it, no need to be the ultimate douche about it.

First, here's this;
bretbauer@hotmail.com
that's his personal email.
Second, I just got off the phone with my cousin who's a lawyer and she said that if you had work done whether it be on your car or your house or whatever, the person hired to do the work is responsible to meet a level of expected quality of work for the job they have been paid to do. If they have not done so, you have the right to sue them for all of the money you paid them plus damages. Seeing that you have pics of the shoddy job, I'd say sue his arrogant ass.

Small claims court, go for Judge Judy lmao.
I just sent a nice email to your buddy Brett.
Josh, I know Lloyd has been cool with you but he decided to outsource the job to Brett am I correct? IMO Lloyd should step up and make things right too. It's no different than a body shop subletting a wheel alignment to a mechanical shop and having them screw it up....in the customer's eyes it's still the body shop's issue, they own it.

i paid the other shops through him but this was at my request. he referred me to Airflow development and airflow development sent my intake to Bret without me knowing. care to send me the email sent to Bret?

I still think Denniss need to step up if douche nozzle Bret won't, the fact is somewhere down the line he decided to use Bret...they own the problem just as much as he does IMO. I still think my analogy of a body shop subletting an alignment applies.
Best of luck man, I hope it works out.
here's his facebook...

he also went to Notre Dame HS in Elmira NY from 91-96
from Popular Hotrodding....
BRET BAUER
Pine City, NY
Did Not Finish
Bret and his father Jack were very anxious to get their results. The Chevy (http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/0302_beasteast/index.html) they designed and assembled had been researched from top to bottom, with the Bauer's using all of their engineering skills to develop a solid entry. Unfortunately, the engine began losing oil pressure soon after we fired it up, and after double-checking the gauges, it was determined that the pressure loss was considerable. We felt bad for them, but a post-operative teardown found the oil pump stud nut loose, and this single fastener was responsible for benching the Bauer's this year. They swear they'll be back for more, as our format truly appeals to them. To show what great sports they are, the Bauer's hung around throughout our testing to assist any other competitor who may have needed a hand with anything. Even though they weren't able to get results on their entry, we feel this selfless act says plenty about this father/son team, and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.

Well, that says alot. I'm sure his father would handle this in a more profesional level. If his son is runnign the shop, it's goign to go right into the ground. Notre Dame don't mean **** if you can't handle a simple situation.

Yeah, I saw that. Just like anything else we all have our opinions. What I don't personally like is that people are minimizing the **** up. Is it REALLY that big of a deal from an operational standpoint? Probably not(then again I'm not a machinist) but the fact is you spent the $$ on a NEW intake and they butchered it, end of discussion.

I dunno, don't wanna be taking sides, but... eh.
Part of me wants to agree with them, but then the other part is feeling that I paid X amount for this work, and this is not what I paid for....
However, I don't think the whole internet flame fest you kinda started was the right choice... IMO of course.

I think the feeling is if he wanted it to look like it was done with a Dremel, he would have done it with a Dremel. You send something to a machinst because you want something professionally done, not something just good enough. In my mind, a machinst should be like an artist; when that machinst does work for someone, their name and reputation carries with that job. There are plenty of good machinsts out there that understand this and put 100% effort into everything they do, no matter how small. And if they don't think they can do a decent job or just don't have the time to meet their own quality standards, they will refer the work to someone else. If I saw something like that sitting in a machine shop I would never get work done there.

I've been reading through this story. Its confusing to say the least.
Did 86Firebird receive any compensation or get the manifold corrected so it is usable?
I would never use any of the businesses involved with this debacle.

Sometimes you get taken, and getting compensated is not only troublesome, and time consuming, but there is no guarantee that you will get the right results anyway.
Sometimes its just best to go elsewhere and pay for what you need.
This seems like one of those times. It might be the first time this has happened to you, but it will probably not be the last. The best you can do is to keep these events to a minimum as you go through life.

I've heard the same, and it seems that JerzLT1 was greatful to him for the offer to help get the manifold fixed.
HOWEVER, IMO, Lloyd should have NEVER sent a manifold out to get worked over by someone else without letting the customer know first. AND he should have NEVER sent it to that asshat. If Bret Bauer has been getting banned as a sponsor for terrible customer service and other complaints from places like LS1Tech and all since '04, you'd think other shops would steer clear of farming work out to them.

what work have you had done by Bret? he does great work because he speced your cam for Lloyd back in the day? he actually got banned for his poor customer service and screwing over other SPONSORS by not completing their work in a timely manner and screwing a lot of them over. Him being an ******* has a small part in him getting banned
i can live with the stories of the elongated bolt hole being needed, and i can live with the stories of the inside holes not being drilled because they arent used.
what i cant live with is returning a BRAND NEW MANIFOLD in a condition that appears as if it has been dropped, knicked and scratched and dinged and CRACKED
now they want to say all it needed was to be welded and bead blasted....well, honestly, they should have done that before ever even considering the job finished.
as for all the people on tech saying "its a custom part and not designed that way and things dont look perfect but it wont affect performance".... i dont see any of them offering to buy it and use it themselves...
