View Full Version : Chasing Problems

Well, since my cam swap Ive had nothing but problems getting the car to run correctly. After tuning, the car still surges and takes a long time to find idle. Car revs up before coming to a stop, or simply idling forward. If the engine is revved up quickly, it will take a long time before settling to idle or cruising rpm for that speed. Consecutive start ups dont go well. I thought the injectors might be clogged, so I had them rebuilt and flowed, but the before/after numbers were within 2%...not the problem.

The car just started to run like real crap a few days ago and I pulled a p0151 code (Passenger O2 sensor low voltage). That O2 sensor was replaced during the tuning with a denso, which is the new GM replacement for the AC delco.

The car is an LS1, 228/232 111lsa cam, stock 241 heads, 4000 stall, and boltons. Fuel system is a walbro 255 that is under a year old. Its not burning any oil, but gas mileage is less than 9 mi/gal with normal driving.

How can I test an O2 sensor other than replacing it? I really dont think I should be blowing through O2 sensors, or having any of these problems with my mods. Any ideas as to what would cause them to go bad, or should I be chasing a different problem?

Thanks guys.

Only way to test an 02 sensor is to monitor it with a scantool.

As far as the revving going into park... I think its due to the loose converter.

I would guess the computer is trying to compensate for the new cam and you need to burn a new chip.

Ed:

If you mean he needs more time with the tuner, that's a very good possibility. But "chips" were not used in LS1 cars like his, or any Fbody since 1994 I think.

The revving up issue happens when in drive coming to a stop, it likes to rev up to 1500 rpm and hold that for a few seconds before settling down. There was about 20 hours of tuning put into the car after the cam swap.

Might be a shot in the dark, but check all your grounds. Especially the ones located at the rear of the driverside cylinder head. When I had my motor out a few years ago, those grounds either never got tightened or worked loose (either way my fault) and they caused all kinds of driveability issues, idle issues, took out an O2 sensor, etc. etc.

If you didn't pull the heads then there would be little reason for them to be acting up, but worth a try.

i say we look at the data stream. check iac counts and such.
