my wife and I both have the Motorola Droid and we love. Its a badass phone and as long as you download a task manger so you can end you Alps battery lasts a while. I charge mine at night when I sleep and 9 times out of 10 I'm good for the whole day. PS this is sent from my Droid.

i bought the eris a couple months ago, wish i waited for this, looks like mine but twice as good

and ya if the battery is anything like the eris (both HTC droids), the battery life is horrible. lasts about a day

i wanted the droid .... but after checking it out and using it in the store,
I realized that I needed a phone that was touch screen and had keyboard option.
due to my large hands/fingers, textin with a touch screen is near impossible.

I bought the lg touch env2 love it!!!

The droid has a keyboard. Did you slide it open?

I have the droid and I LOVE IT! Best phone I have ever owned by far. Blows my old LG Voyager out of the water. My only suggestion.... if you want to get your outlook e-mail hooked into the droid like blackberrys do, get an app called Touchdown. It costs $20 but is well worth it.

The Motorola Droid is the one with the slide out keyboard. The HTC Eris does not have a slide out keyboard and the new one I believe does not. To be perfectly honest I rarely use the slide keyboard because the the touch keyboard is very accurate but that's just me.

There are some solid +'s to the incredible however I prefer having an actual keyboard for texting. The touch screen keyboards have gotten really good but just aren't for me. If you can get past that, I would choose it over a droid.

I dont have verizon so I can't get the droid. But I have an android phone(Same operation system as the droid), and can say that my current phone is much better than the past smartphones I've had. With an android phone, I no longer have that "I wish I had an Iphone" feeling. With the droid, you'll be able to do just about everything an Iphone does, and run multiple programs at once(Iphone can't do that until their next round of updates)

I have it, I really like it, battery life does kinda suck though. If I don't play with it a lot I have gotten ALMOST 24 hours out of it. Usually I have to charge every 8-11 hours depending on what I am doing, I have not downloaded the battery manager yet, I may though.

One thing I didnt like hearing is the smallish battery for that phone. Its like 1000mAh? My Storm is 1400mAh and I can burn that out in 8 hours under heavy use.

If you are holding out for a Verizon iPhone, you may be in luck.....WWDC is June 7 - 11, and any Verizon iPhone announcement is likely to come then.

It's all speculation at this point. No one knows for sure how long the exclusivity deal between Apple and AT&T is actually good for. And having Apple jump to Verizon after that makes sense, but isn't a guarantee. We'll just have to wait and see.

Even if they do announce a deal with Verizon for this year with the 4G phone, you won't be able to buy it at least until sometime this fall.

Meh..I like the iPhone's build quality and feel and for the most part its just a seamless phone in its opperation.
My problems with it is that its Apple. They keep updating the software to make it better, but it has gaps still and again...Apple dominated software as with everything else.
My problem with BB is that they continue to believe that they are a business phone first, and that making phones for the average person just isnt where they want to be, at least not as thier flagship phone.

BigAls87Z28
06-23-2010, 09:27 PM
Despite my qualms about Moto's Droids, the new X looks amazing. Still doesnt have that certain build quality, and the icons still look a little cheapish, especially with the mega-high res screen.
I dunno...gotta play with it.

My Droid's built quality was fine :dunno:

BigAls87Z28

I guess not build quality, but just how it feels. Looks too plasticky for me when compared to the clean design of the iPhone or any of the current BB designes.

Frosty
06-23-2010, 11:29 PM
True but I'll take functionality over eye candy any day....Droid>>>>>anything BB could possibly dream of and is right on par with the Iphone IMO.

BigAls87Z28
06-23-2010, 11:48 PM
The X really does have some super impressive specs. My apple friends say it doesnt have a front-facing camera. Well I havent had a need for it, and dont think Ill see aneed for it. In fact, the 3 mics that are built into the damn phone seem to be overkill, but might work out for car reviews.

I like that the phone shoots in 720p 30fps, has a big 8mp camera with dual led flash, 24 gigs of space with the ability to expand to 40gig, and a massive and cool list of apps!

My Storm has proved to be a decent phone, but lacks big time over the power of the Droid, or the prestiege of the iPhone.
Unless BB blows me away with a Storm 3 real soon, I think July 15th might be X day for Big Al.

Tru2Chevy
06-24-2010, 12:53 PM
Yea, I have been watching the Droid X for a little while now. Aside from the front facing camera it seems to be very similar to Sprint's new 4G Evo, and that is a very nice phone. I definitely will be considering the X very seriously next month.

- Justin

BigAls87Z28
06-24-2010, 07:11 PM
Yeah, the X and the Evo are pretty close. Its been talked about more of VZ's answer to the Evo, not the iPhone.
No one has really ever came out and said "THIS WILL DESTROY THE IPHONEZ!!"

How much bigger is the X compared to BB Storm? I know I wanted to get Droid when it first came out, but that thing is the size of a child, no way i'm carrying that in my pocket.

BigAls87Z28
06-24-2010, 08:02 PM
X is big. Thinner then the Storm, but large. The screen itself is 4.3 inches.
Think of it as a thinner Motor Droid in size, without the keyboard.

Here it is witht he iPhone4

I noticed to myself that I am now climbing back up the scale of size reguarding cell phones.
First phone was that Nokia that everyone had. Then I had a smaller Nokia, then 2 LG's and the smallest was my white Motor KRZR.

http://www.slashgear.com/gallery/data_files/7/4/Motorola_KRZR_K1m_1.jpg

That was a bit of a heap, so I went to my first "smart" phone with the Storm. Its big, but now a days its ont he small end of the scale.

So um.. new question. This thing is gonna require additional 20 bucks for the plan? "Base" plan + 29.99 + 20.00? Am I getting this right? Having a cell phone is becoming very humbling for my wallet.

The Droid X can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices. Verizon is charging an additional fee of $20 per month to use the service and bandwidth is allotted at 2GB per month.

Green_Phoenix_LT1

To have a droid phone on VZW a 29.99 charge is required because you must have an unlimited data plan to have the phone. My wife and I both have the Moto Droid and feel its completely worth the extra 60 a month(2 droids)

Tru2Chevy

Yes, positive. The $29.99 data plan is mandatory, and the phone is more or less useless for anything but calls / texts without it. The wifi hotspot is an option though.

I have the Droid Eris, its a cool phone but its buggy as hell..sometimes I think it has a mind of its own...After my company Verizon discount I only pay 70 bucks for everything (data plan, etc) which is a few more dollars then what i payed for my old regular phone and text.

BigAls87Z28
06-29-2010, 07:56 AM
Vitals, yeah the 20 bucks is for tethering. You can do that on the Storm 2 with the Wifi, but you have to pay the 20 to do that.
You could turn the X into a Wifi Router, for up to 5 other devices. So when your friends iPhone gets no reception, you could charge them 20 bucks a month to use your phone's wifi signal so that they can surf the web! People helping people!

Yea, I could see using it if you need to hop online with a laptop for a few minutes here and there, but I wouldn't use it much.

1/2 the reason I want a phone like this is so I can carry my laptop less.

Stick the phone in a sealed bag of dry white rice(yes i mean rice) overnight. the rice will absorb the moisture out of the phone much like silica and it should work.

If not use the insurance that you should have on the phone and pay 50 for a new replacement.

If you do buy a new one give me the old one and i will repair it so you can sell it and we split the profit

The Motorola Droid 2 is coming out soon. Same specs as the new X (1 ghz processor, 8 mb camera, etc.) but with a better keyboard.

I've have the Droid for about a week or so now. Still haven't figured out everything but its quite impressive. The only things I dislike are the slide out keyboard (It just doesn't feel right but I rarely use it.) and I haven't figured out yet if you can customize the touch screen keyboard.

Its 9.9mm thin, a lot thinner then the Storm, but the top end is fat. Do a few searches on Youtube, there are a few very lengthy reviews and tests.
The 3 part one is fantastic. It sold me. Between the Moto Widgets, the Droid interface, the speed and the screen, plus the multimedia stuff...epic.

Yeah...crazy stuff. Cant find a simple bluetooth OBD2 adapter made in America. Shesh.
It would probably cost 20x as much though.
