View Full Version : Things happen in three's right? One more surgery

So, in 2008 a careless driver plowed into my wife and I at 40 mph - the wifey suffered whip lash - I had to have surgery (spinal fusion) where they removed a damaged disc, put a metal plate, 4 screws, and a cadaver bone in my spine.

2009 I got punted across 4 lanes of traffic by a careless driver - I had to have surgury (spinal fusions) again. They removed the 1 year old metal plate and screws, put a much bigger metal plate in, 8 screws, 2 damaged disc's were removed, and they put 2 more cadaver bones in my spine - now a total of 3 cadaver bones.

Due to extensive damage from accident #2, I have to go back in one more time. Spinal surgery sucks..... but my doctor has advised that this one is going to really suck.

This time they are going in through the back of my neck. They are going to fuse C3, C4, C5, C6 and C7 together - basically, my entire neck. They will drill each disc in two places and put pins in - total 10 pins - and connect them together by 2 metal rods.

My other 2 surgeries were through the front of my neck as there is less muscle etc., but when surgery is done through the back of the neck there is ALOT of muscles.... and I have been advised it is very painful - more painful than my prior surgeries.

I should be going in either this week or next week.

So.... total will be 10 pins, 8 screws, 3 cadaver bones, 2 metal rods, 1 metal plate and a partrige in a pear tree...... ok, maybe no partrige in a pear tree.

This will make a MAJOR impact to my life - when my wife and I finally have kids, I will have difficulty playing with them, I won't be able to ride ATV's or jet ski's. Racing is EXTREMELY doubtful.... if anything maybe a 20 second car.... even that is doubtful as my neck may not be able to support the weight of a helmet. When the weather is cold or humid or both I am in a world of wicked pain.... and only someone who has metal in their body can understand this pain. It is doubtful I will be able to handle performance oriented cars - hell, I can't even handle the ride of my wife's 2010 C-Class with a sport package ?!?!?!

The list can go on and on..... these careless drivers have made a HUGE irreversable impact on both my and my wife's lives.....blah.

All I have to say is.... be VERY careful when you drive.... watch out for @ssholes and DON'T be one.

REALLY SORRY to hear about your grief! Just knowing that you'll be in great PAIN AFTER the operation is enough to give me the shivers. As a side note, I hope you have a HUGE settlement coming out of all this to compensate for the loss of what most of us take for granted. LOL

All your stories always sound pretty horrible, I would imagine it's even worse in real life. I'd would say "best of luck" but that doesn't really cut it in your situation, and I pretty much got nothing else. Hopefully some time in the near future they will come up with some gizmo that would improve your quality of life.

they should just replace your skeletal system with a cadaver this way there are no more issues. lol

That really sucks. Did you ever find out how to go about suing the dumbass??? wasn't there some issue with work insurance vs. personal insurance?

On a side note don't worry about your kids you were never athletic anyway Genie would have been the one taking them to the park and playing. You'll teach them how to play video games and watch bad movies, oh yeah if you have a girl you can take her to get her manicures with you. LMAO....

Gotta catch up one day lots going on that you guys haven't heard about....
