Can this radiator be fixed??

My buddy has an 06 GTO and he just replaced his radiator just under a year ago. Now its leaking from this seal thing, its behind the radiator about 2 inches below the res. cap. so do you guys thing it can be sealed up/welded or some how fixed?

he needs a temp fix until he replaces it. Any feedback would really help and the sooner the better!

Going on out on a limb here, but on LT1 radiators, the end plastic caps are replaceable. May wanna look into that.

he just text me back saying it stopped.. ?? maybe cause he let it cool down? does this cap thing serve any purpose?

Doubt it, you can buy a JB weld ish stuff, but make sure the surface is really clean first.

If thats the tranny cooler, if its an auto, you could always buy a trans cooler, and delete the usage of the stock cooler.

they must use the same radiator for manuals and autos. But that is the trans cooler connection. If it is leaking between the radiator and hex, no it cannt be replaced. I wouldnt attempt JB weld either, i would a new radiator. It might not leak when it is warm but once you start driving again the pressure will probably cause it to leak again.

The side tank should be replaceable as stated above. I'd look to see if you can get one without the trans cooler provision. Is it leaking from the fitting/seal or through the cooler port? If I get a chance to look on the parts computer I'll check it out tomorrow.

this has all been going on via text... he told me the seal... what kind of options does that give him?

Doubt it, you can buy a JB weld ish stuff, but make sure the surface is really clean first. that is as stupid as physically damaging rocker stud threads so they stay or thinking you can weld this tank.




Either it is leaking around a seal or threads and that needs to be corrected or you need a rad. You say he just got it. Warranty?

lol hes looking for a temp fix... and hes tellling me its the seal. i told him the same thing about the warranty... i dunno... i feel like he may have gotten some cheap chineese radiator or something...

You can't 'temp fix'' a radiator. Fix it right, you'll be 1000x ahead of the game. If it's a seal, drain the rad and fix it right, don't goo it up with crap because some moron on a message board said it might work. Tell you friend he's a jackass and to fix it right. Because when the jb weld let loose on the highway and the motor overheats and bakes the head gaskets that cheap fix (be honest, he's looking for cheap not quick) ain't so cheap anymore.

bad seal/sealant? I'm not sure what's in there. Steve can get you that parts breakdown it night help,. I looked it up and all I found was a tank.

if its threaded you might wanna put some teflon on that....ive had a problem like that on a line just like that on my old rx7...pulled the little plug and put a little teflon on it and bam...no more leaks :nod:

the female sides of those fittings aren't repairable. go back to where you got it or just replace the tank/radiator.
