View Full Version : Help me find a 18" spare tires
I am looking to get an 18" spare tire.
But here are my issues..
-anything less than an 18" wheel/rim will NOT fit
-anything with more than 4.5" backspacing (and plus 42mm offset) will NOT fit
-bolt pattern must be a 6 x 115mm(NOT 6x4.5")
-final Overall Diameter must be around 26.6"
-tire width must be less than 225width in order to fit in spare tire well
-tire would need to be in the 145/80/18 size range(that is 27.1", and is the dodge challenger spare size, but impossible to find to buy)
I was looking online and I could most likely have a custom 18" steel rim made, like an 18x4(maybe up to 6"), with the proper bolt pattern and 2" backspacing(variable depending on final width of rim) with 0 offset. But i still cant find a 18 temporary tire to buy...
BTW stock tire size is 245/45/18. when mounted on the 18x8.5" stock wheel, it will NOT fit flush in the spare well.
So if i spent the 200+ for a stock rim, id still then need to have it narrowed at least 2"...
ill craw under the trailblazer tomorrow. its the small six lug, and i know its an 18'' wheel...maybe grabbing one of those and having it narrowed?

the TB pattern is 6x127mm(5") and the larger 6 lug is 6x5.5"
so yea, a no go, lol.
Only the SRX, CTS-V(04-07) and STS-V had the 6x115mm pattern.(from GM...i think toyotas have that pattern a lot..)
SRX had 18x8" rim with 52mm offset, so that wouldnt work
CTSV wheels are $200-425 each
STSV wheels need spacers to fit the front and would still require narrowing.
how much could you grab srx wheels for? if they are cheaper than ctsv it would give you some room to have them narrowed

hmm... i think i saw them for as low as 85... lemme look again, I didnt think of that.
edit, i found several for 99 or 100 on ebay... now how much does narrowing cost?
i found narrowing can cost in the 150 range...hmm then i need a narrow tire too..
EDIT: I just found an 18x8 SRX wheel for $29 and $27 shipping.. this may be worth a try...
ok now im thinking, MAYBE a 8" wide rim would fit in the tire well if i run a 215 or 225 width tire...
because im thinking the 18x8 srx rim should fit on the car...
the stock rim is 8.5" with a +42mm offset...
so a rough estimate is that backspacing is 4.25"(or107.95mm) and add the 42 for a rough total of 149.95mm
srx rim is 8" with a +51mm offset...
so backspacing is close to about 4"(101.6mm) now add on the 51mm offset for a rough total of 152.6mm.
149.95mm vs 152.6mm is only less than a 3mm difference(2.65mm or 0.104")
now the question is, would a 1/10th of an inch make a difference?
I could always get a 1/4 spacer and use that when i need the spare....
if it would fit, on the car and in the trunk.... then i wouldnt need to spend more money to have them narrowed.

You can have some made. To a man of your means the cost is minimal.

only issue with having a rim made, is finding a tire narrow enough, i had no luck
i think scott meant tires....

No, I meant wheels. It's harder to get custom tires made.
i found a goodyear 225/50r18 on tirerack.com.
$96 only
6-8" rim width
8.2" tread width
26.9" OD
if the srx rim will fit that tire should work...

what tire is on it now that 225 is considered skinny?
245/45/18 on the 8.5rim
The issue is that when the 245 is placed in the spare tire well, the top cover will not sit flush over it.
That 20mm difference could allow the cover to sit flush.

Oh, this is for an actual spare. Ok. I thought this was a drag racing thing.
I guess there is there no spare now? Does GM sell one, or is it a runflat only deal?
the CTS-V originally comes with runflats, yet when i got the car, the previous owner had already swapped them out with toyos. I just bought new tires, but wasnt spending 325+ each for runflats. so, now i need a real spare.
04-07 CTS Vs were not available with a spare of any kind.
But since the V's have 6 lug(base cts are 5 lug) and the huge brembo brakes, there arent many options. And the spare tire well is designed to fit a compact spare for the base cts only. The V has a plastic tub insert/delete in the well now.

i think the easiest solution is........making a raised trunk floor to accommodate the stock wheel :)
seems srx wheel wit not fit. The calipers stick to far out into the wheel past the mounting surface.

at this point, it seems thats what ill be doing.
