well since we made it past the middle of july with no one mentioning it, i picked the reigns back up for the njfboa ffb league.

i currently have it set to 12 teams, but that can change slightly with more interest. for now, the first 11 to go to the league home and register will be in.

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/

league name: njfboa
password: camaro

i stuck almost to the default yahoo settings, ill let someone tell me if they can see what i changed... we can discuss other changes, or any wagering after we have the interest

I was thinking about this the other day. I keep thinking its early for football season but its only like 6 weeks till the start of the regular season.
I'm in as usual. Gotta win it this year after my disappointing finish of second last year.

Any chance of a buy in this again? Last years went fine and it added its share of excitement to the league.

Mike
07-19-2010, 01:03 PM
we can make it a paid league, i wasnt going to make it mandatory because i dont want to turn anyone away. part of starting now rather than mid august is so we have time to discuss those things

I think I might jump in on this, missed out last year. I wouldn't object to a small buy-in to keep things interesting.

I want in as well. Was in last year.

and $20 BUY-IN SHOULD BE MANDATORY.

Lets just be honest, without money on the line, alot of people dont take it seriously, and dont update their rosters week to week..and then it just becomes stupid.

the $20 buy-in last year worked fine, and everyone was competetive till the end. Im sure everyone who was in last year would agree.

I would even be willing to up the pot to $25 a person. thats a nice little payday for the winner!

if you're not down with a buy-in...then let someone create a non $$$ league.

agreed?

NastyEllEssWon

im down for the buy in but like i said, the buy in for the league shouldnt be due until at least preseason. i have too many things going on right now to dump 20 bucks. thats like 2 drinks at mayhem or ozzfest

I am also cool with a buy-in. BTW, I remember it was pointed out last year that PayPal deducted a fee from some of the buy-ins because they were sent as "for goods." If we use PayPal, we have to make sure everyone sends it as "personal" so nothing gets deducted.

Mike
07-21-2010, 11:21 AM
true...

im fine with a buy in, and i think everyone that committed so far is fine with a buy in, so what i think we should do is once we have a full league, put up a vote for the amount (20, 25, etc) but as of right now, it will be a buy in league

It was Peterson with a catch and 15 yard gain. It gave you 3 points. He then fumbled, -1.
You were down by 1 before that play.

I talked to my brother-in-law today. He says he's going to sign up again, but is waiting to see where some of his other drafts fall. I told him to do it soon, so we'll see what happens.

As for me, I have another league that's doing their draft on Aug 31 at 8:15pm. So as long as it doesn't conflict with that anytime should be good for me.

Mike
08-13-2010, 10:30 AM
we have one spot left, and need to fill it or they wont let us draft... John let me know what your brother in law says whenever you get a chance to talk to him

Mike
08-18-2010, 09:39 AM
alright it looks like we are full... now, the 12 people that are in can decide on stakes, i know 20 and 25 have both been mentioned, im fine with whichever, as is my buddy from off the forum, as soon as i hear from the other 10, we can decide on the payment method...

as far as pay breakdown, i am thinking of doing it the same way i do home poker games...

third place gets their money back, then first and second split the rest 70/30

that is also open to opinions

Tru2Chevy
08-18-2010, 05:30 PM
$20 or $25 is fine with me, really don't have the extra cash on hand to go higher than that though.

are we gonna charge anything for Add/drops??

Mike
08-19-2010, 11:26 AM
what do you mean

LS1Hawk
08-19-2010, 01:09 PM
what do you mean

You set a salary cap for picking up free agents, instead of going just by who's first in the order. The order only comes into play if two people bid on the same person for the same amount. One of my baseball leagues on CBS Sportsline does it. Everyone started the season with $250. It's not real money, you just set it up. However, I don't know if Yahoo lets you do it in the "basic" leagues. I'm sure as the commisioner you would be able to see an option for it in the settings somewhere if you can. I personally like it better because it keeps people from just adding and dropping willy-nilly, and adds another dimension of managing your team.

BTW, I am cool with $25.

Mike
08-19-2010, 01:11 PM
wow, i thought it said "change anything" for the adds and drops... ive never done a league that way, but am willing to if everyone else is... might be a little harder with football with the regularity of season ending injuries

LS1Hawk
08-19-2010, 01:17 PM
Yeah, I've never done it in a football league. Only in baseball. However, I don't think the injuries should be too much of a problem. In my baseball league I had 3 of my top draft picks have season ending injuries or 4 month DL stays. I've added/drop guys and still have $122 left for the rest of the season.

TNTramair
08-19-2010, 03:18 PM
there's a few ways to do it. like ls1hawk said, you give every team a set money value for teh entire year and every week if there is a free agent they want than they place a bid on him. the free agent goes to the highest bidder. after you spend all of your imaginary money on free agents you can no longer pick them up so you need to use your money wisely.

what this prevents is the monday morning scavenger scooping up all the free agents at 7am in the morning when they unlock. basically so some teams can stack themselves up.

in my cash leagues we have to pay $2.00 per transaction (real money) and it goes into the pot for any add/drops and $5.00 for trades...lol..but those leagues are based on your waiver order...the better your team is the higher up you are on the waiver order which means you have less of a chance of gettting a good player.

but, i was just wondering. if we dont do anything like that than its no big deal.

Mike
08-19-2010, 04:43 PM
there isnt an option for that on yahoo to be done automatically... you can do a weekly limit or season limit on waiver moves though

LS1Hawk
08-20-2010, 05:12 AM
there isnt an option for that on yahoo to be done automatically... you can do a weekly limit or season limit on waiver moves though

If we are in a basic format league, they probably don't give you the option. You most likely have to pay for a package that has it. That would have to had been discussed before we opened the league. But it's an idea for next year if people are interested. People would have to pay a higher buy-in to offset the league's fee. But usually when you get those packages you get other goodies like better analysis, updates, etc.

Mike
08-20-2010, 09:17 AM
i can add a limit of 2 or 3 waiver moves per week, or unlimited per week but cap it at 15 for the season?

LS1Hawk
08-20-2010, 10:27 AM
I'm more for capping it at 15 moves for the season. This way it keeps teams honest and you don't see guys with brand new teams week after week. If it so happens that teams are really hurting because of injuries, you can always raise the cap during the season.

Mike
08-20-2010, 10:31 AM
well it creates a more active trade market as well, if people dont want to waste all their free agent moves early, they will be more apt to put together more fun trade packages...

Mike
08-20-2010, 10:35 AM
player acquisition cap set at 18, and trade deadline moved back one week to november 19th...

set it to 18 because i just realized we are going to have more bench players than rounds in the draft, so it will let people fill their teams prior to week one without using their 15 in season picks

mc73nova
08-22-2010, 07:18 PM

Mike
08-23-2010, 09:19 AM

08-23-2010, 05:53 PM

NastyEllEssWon
08-23-2010, 06:21 PM
with the limited amount of time ive had lately and the recent developments on capping waiver moves and whatnot i might not be able to keep up with the league as much as i'd like. anyone else want my spot in...

Mike
08-23-2010, 11:44 PM
sweet a day and a half before the draft...

18 waiver moves should be more than enough when you consider there is no limit on trades, and i moved the trading deadline...

and technically, capping the waiver moves would reduce the time you have to spend with your team each week, which is easier for a limited schedule

I really shot myself in the foot in the 5th round. I was going for another RB and I took Bradshaw of NYG. Don't know what made me take him because there were other good backs still available at that point. But after I picked him I realize he's got the same bye week as Turner who's my other back. I don't know what the hell I was thinking because I'm always looking at the bye weeks.

Maybe... The thing is Bradshaw isn't bad and he will probably get a lot of carries because NY doesn't have a set no. 1 RB. It's really just week 8 that's gonna suck, unless my backups end up being decent.

they are a waste of time b/c after the first few weeks people stop paying attention to them. when there's money on the line though it should keep you'r interest... everyone can use an extra $300.00 bucks or so up for grabs in this league. nice little bonus around christmas.

i feel pretty good about my team but than again i allways do on draft day...thats why i draft the way i do. time will allways tell. i did draft a few sleepers than im hoping pan out...if they do it'll be nice trade bait.

Yeah, I played him this past week. I'll admit it felt like cheating. Unfortunately you're always going to get an owner or two that end up not paying attention.

Can't believe that I actually still have a shot at winning this week. So many points left on the bench. Kids were running around like mad men at lunchtime today and I completely forgot to check on Collie's status. He put up over 20 points before getting knocked out of the game in the 2nd quarter. Was gonna swap him out for McCluster who put up less than 1. Ugh.

Green-Ellis better light up Green Bay tonight..... :)

if they dont pay, i suggest 2 things:

1) they are banned from joining any future njfboa fantasy football seasons

2) everyone who wants to join next year, has no more than ONE WEEK to pay up from join date, or they are removed from the roster, and their spot is filled with a another member.

i hate to say it, but im not shocked payment wasn't made by import killers, especially since by mid season, he was constantly leaving in players who were out or on injured reserved. bascially handing out free wins..

i think these suggestions are pretty fair. in other fantasy leagues, payment is mandatory FIRST, regardless of anything else. this weeds out the deadbeats.

you are right, and that was one of the original things, but with so many college aged people on this forum, i was a little lenient, and it obviously bit me in the ass... they will never play in a league i run again, and i have a couple other things up my sleeve for them

nice of you to try to be considerate, but as usual, kindness is mistaken for weakness.

whether or not you run next seasons fantasy football, i think they should be banned from any fantasy league related to this site (regardless of who the Mod is). non-payment is just unacceptable, and basically says **** YOU to the rest of us who paid, and played, and tried to make it a success.

i have little respect for fools like this, college-aged or any-aged. this is the number one no-no in a paying fantasy league. to be honest, i think they should be banned from the site as a whole too.

even though i lost and the deadbeats didnt pay up i'd be willing to kick in an extra 5 bucks a person to get the winners paid their portion. i know we shouldnt have to do that but screw it, its only 5 bucks.

Doing a member search, Dilley has not logged in since August, so that tells you something right there. However, 5.s1ow was on yesterday, so there's no excuse for him not seeing the thread or reading a PM if he was sent one about paying.

no disrespect justin...but the league takes place in njfboa's website...for njfboa members exclusively..and played by njfboa members exclusively..i would say it is official as it gets..thats my 2 cents.

these 2 need to be banned. there shouldnt be any 2nd chances for non-payment, its the same as screwing someone over who's buying a part in the classified section...just unacceptable. they obviously dont care. i dont appreciate being slapped in the face, when the rest of us played hard to make it a success, and these 2 fools think they can just **** everyone over.

I appreciate the suggestion of throwing in a few more bucks to make up for it but I dont think anyone should be responsible for covering their entry. I would be fine splitting the amount that there is now. Its amazing that there is always someone who doesn't pay no matter what league I enter. I'm sure if either one of them made it far enough they would have paid and would be looking for their payout right about now. Whatever you guys decide is fine with me.

I guess it depends how we decide to do it, but I'd be up for it.

I have not been in a keeper league. But in one of my baseball leagues, we are going to start doing keepers this season. Meaning for '11 we do the draft from scratch. Then in '12 we'll be able to chose any 3 players before the draft starts to keep from the '11 season that we drafted after round 5...so the best guys are not permanently held onto. Which ever guys we decide to keep from '11, we don't get a pick for in the '12 draft based on the rounds we took them in '11.

I'm not sure if Yahoo has a system for keeper leagues that keeps track of previous years' picks. Because during we'd have to be able to see who we picked from the previous season and in what round.

Mike
01-05-2011, 12:08 PM
my other yahoo league is a keeper league, i dont know if the commish handles it or if yahoo does it though. we keep 2 people and they count for the round they were drafted, if picked up as a free agent or waiver wire move they count for a late round pick. you can keep them for a maximum of 3 seasons (the one that just ended plus 2 more)

LS1Hawk
01-05-2011, 01:36 PM
In your league, Mike, if there are no guys you want to keep is that OK? Are you allowed to draft a completely new team if you want while others are hanging on to some players?

congrats to the top 3. mike any word on how many keepers and the regulations on that. the only problem is that id like to make a few proposals...no waiver move limits, i didnt enjoy that at all this year as i feel that playing the free agent pool makes things intense wondering if youre gonna get the guy you want and it makes things more competitive for people that drafted bad, that way people dont lose interest when theyre 0-3 and people get free wins at the end of the year when theyre needed to lose. also brings me to the other point...we need people that arent going to call it quits in september

You'll still have a draft every year, just the guys you hang onto you'll lose a pick for whatever round you took them in the previous season.

That being said, I think we should do a fresh draft next season with it being keepers for the following season, since we didn't really establish keeping guys this year.
