For the 3rd time in the last 4 years my brother and I won the 4th of July quoits tournament. We should have won it last year as well which would have been 4 in a row, but the other team made a great throw at the end to put a ringer on top of 2 leaners I had. I think there were 36 teams this year and it was 99 degrees. Everyone asks how often we practice and I told them I had only played twice all year until the 4th. I think you just need to drink enough beer, smoke enough cigars and you will intimidate the other teams. I'm obviously an intimidating person!

No, horseshoes is twice the distance and my arm is calibrated to quoits!

Ha ha. Isn't that the truth. I played horseshoes over the 4th, but I was used to heavier shoes than what the people had. Got a bit exciting, and a little embarrassing.

I guess this makes it 4 out of the last 5 years, we won the quoit tournament again this year. I think everyone hates us now, especially when they find out we don't even practice or play very often. We played a couple of games at a memorial day picnic. We had the biggest turnout so far this year with 45+ teams so it's a good time and seems to be growing.

Pretty much, also 1/2 the distance between pins.

It's pretty big in our area so we've been playing for 25+ years. It's played at almost every picnic around here. I've only thrown horseshoes a couple of times and never really got a feel for it. It's kind of funny that we used to get mad because the same teams would win all the time and now we're those guys.

Titusville on the 4th of July. Behind the school after the parade. It's been part of the 4th of July for a long time. It's just local people and kids playing but it keeps drawing a bigger crowd each year.

No, the old Titusville school on River Drive. I think it's privately owned now and is called The Titusville Academy. They close down River Drive for the parades and food and 50/50's.
