View Full Version : Rotors/Pads Question

I have always noticed that I can not spin my wheels freely when it is in the air, nothing like crazy, but a noticeable impedance is there.

Now compared to Kirk's car, whose wheels spin freely and without interference, this seems like I need new rotors.

I have owned the car since 2006 and AFAIK, the rotors have never been changed.

Question is, will a set from a local parts store do the job? I do not autoX it, nor do I drive like a maniac and need extreme braking. Same question applied to pads as well.

thanks

why does that make you think you need new rotors? are the surfaces very rough? can they be machined? your pal probably has a mic & a lathe. make sure it isn't caliper slides.

I'm sure you can get by with parts store replacements.

I am only guessing at this point, as far as machining em, its been a few years since I heard of anyone locally to me doing smaller car rotors anymore. No money in it these days.

I know I have changed pads before, so yea, thats a first wrong doing. Surfaces are pretty rough, a finger nail across em and you can feel the ridges.

I'd check the slides-pull them apart, clean them, re-grease and forget it until you need brakes. fix the broken stuff, not the stuff that isn't.

Yea, I just really noticed it cause I have been wheeling around the A arms and wheels, so its been bugging me.

I will try and clean em up tmmr.

yeah, the slides on our cars are a weird design. i have a brake lathe.....for sale  those things are useless. just get a premium non-metallic pad and rotor deal. ceramic = quiet.

I've had good luck with NAPA rotors if you're not looking to spend a ton on fancy waste of $$ ones.

Hawks pads + NAPA rotors=win
