Hey guys my name is Matt. I am one of Ian's best friends and his former roommate so I may have met some of you. He sent me a letter in the mail from boot camp the other day and just wanted me to post his address so you could contact him. If any of the admins here want to post this anywhere else, feel free:

Recruit Filbert, Ian M. (6599)

Platoon 1085, Company C, 1st Recruit Training Battalion

Post Office Box 11085

Parris Island, SC 29905-1085

It has to be spelled and written exactly this way so I would recommend a business envelope. Also, they have very scrict rules on what you can send so he asked if you could just keep it to letters. I.E. sending him something like a Power Bar would get him in trouble unless you sent enough for the other 81 recruits.

Keep in mind that they do also read all the letters and he could get in trouble for anything in them. Let me know if you have any questions and someone buy my car! Later.

Yes for god sakes if you care about this guy in anyway do not send anything other than a letter. Also they do not read EVERY letter but there are screening procedures. Pictures are aloud as well but they DO look at EVERY photograph so if you send him any make sure it is a proper photo and nothing that has stupidity, alcohol, drug use, or nudity.

Also do him a huge favor & do not write any Marine Corps moto stuff on the outside of the letter like Semper Fi, Devil Dog ect. Keep it real low key & simple.

I'll send him a letter this week! Mail to recruits his a huge moral booster, its what we looked forward to every evening.

Agree completely. I don't know the guy but I'm still gonna send him a letter within the next few days.

For those that don't know, this is about "Ian", one of the mods here. He hasn't been terribly active lately, but he made this decision many months ago and didn't tell many people he was going.

No problem guys. Definitely send him a letter, even if it's just "Hey, I put an exhaust on my car and good luck!" He will appreciate it.
