call gm customer service and give them your vin and tell them you want a letter stating that the car is no longer made

I was a year late and they still gave it to me no problems. its good for two years too; i wasnt penalized. I got mine before they changed it so im good :)

they only check emissions now anyway, as long as you have no CEL you pass for 96+

edit: unless your GVW is 8500+ lbs like my truck, then you get the sniffer

sound doesnt matter as long as you have cats and no CEL. ill be taking my 96 through once its done on the dyno

Lol they definitely check for cats. I took the vette through the insp station on rt 38 for the heck of it and surprisingly the vette passed emissions with no cats, and a blower. That is until they drove the car over the fancy camera they have and saw I had no cats = FAIL lol. Good thing I'm registering the vette back home in I'LL this month :)
