So as I'm taking stock parts off my 87 TA I am wanting to get them rust free, clean them and paint them.
What is yalls opinion on cleaners? Would the common degreaser/cleaner work or would it be better to go with expensive-ish cleaners?
Thanks.

carb cleaner and a wire brush always seems to work well for me. i have some stronger stuff for really oily and greasy parts and it does work well, don't know the name though. the stuff por15 recommends using before coating worked great on my floor pan and following the simple directions yielded very good results.

Marine clean?
For degreasing carb cleaner, brakleen, super clean, or a big tub of simple greeen concentrate is what I use.
For rust removal, sandpaper, a wire brush or wheel, or sandblasting. Etching stuff like metal ready or de-rusters like Naval Jelly (phosphoric acid) have never worked well for me.

for degreasing i've used the orange engine degreaser (the name escapes me)
simple green.
and as mentioned for rust removal i use a drill powered wire brush (wire wheel?) followed by a wire brush + sandpaper.

You can soak greasy **** in diesel or kerosene too instead of paying for those expensive bath degreasers that are just diesel or kerosene lol.
