Alright, next Thursday, I get to drive a brand new 2011 Duramax equiped 3500 Sierra around for a week. Anyone have any questions they would like answerd? If you think of any, post up here.

I wish you had a trailer to test the towing abilitys. My father is in the market for a 2500/3500 truck.

i have a '06 3500 with the duramax, thing tows bad ass and id highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tow rig. The newer ones are even more powerful (i have a PPE tuner on my truck so technically mine has more power, i was just saying stock vs stock).

The only thing I dislike about the newer diesels is all the emmision control on them between cats and other things that make the exhaust so intensely hot. The heavy duty trucks I work on each year have something new to meet EPA requirements. Plus many of these new emission devices require special maintnence.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'd be able to write a truly 'complete' review of the 3500 without being able to put it through its paces. You can drive it around empty all you want, but the true purpose for most 1 ton truck owners is to tow or carry a heavy load. Of course, if it sucks empty, it probably sucks loaded down. But that's probably not the case. It would be cool to know how well the new engine braking option works as well.
It would also be cool to know how it would compare to a similarly-equipped f-350 and dodge 3500. Maybe you could include in your writeup how much it would be to get into each truck with similar equipment.

It is true BS. Especially since a diesel will emit less HC and CO than a similarly sized gas engine. I believe these requirements have been the biggest obstacle for auto manufacturers to bring diesel versions of their cars to America from overseas.

As long as the truck has a hitch I should be able use your trailer. Just a matter of hooking it up.

newer diesel have more emissions on them yes, but aftermarket manufacturers are already caught up with that, there is plenty of ways to bypass the DPF, CAT, or whatever else you want to. My 2006 is a LBZ duramax, which was the last year before all that crap was put on it.

QFT. I'll talk my brother into bringing his Ram up and we can have a mini diesel showdown. See if the other tow vehicles want to get involved. :D

Truck Trend did a test on it, if I remember correct it went 14.8 @ 93.(Nick correct me if Im wrong!) It was a Reg Cab W/T. Not too shabby! The new Duramax's are pure sex, I would love a 3500 Quad Cab Dually.

Is that why you hoped to have the Sierra still so you could tow the Camaro to the Nats? :moon::mrgreen:

I wanna know how the exhaust brake works when loaded, how the onboard brakes control are. That's the point of a 3500.
That's be sweet....
Go down to your local building supply yard and have them load a skid of brick/block/pavers into the bed, shrink wrap the skid real good, ratchet-tie it down, then at the end of the week return the supplies and get your $$$ back. That would at least be something. An empty dually is kinda pointless. I am still jealous, but ya gotta load that bad boy to see what's what, put the tranny and the everything through its paces.

Actually Al, I'd like to see something like that. It would make a nice photo op of the 3500 towing your Camaro. Dual purpose really, getting your exhaust done, and good photos and review. I would be shocked if a 3500 came lacking a tow hitch.
Maybe even a side-by-side of the differences between towing the loaded trailer with the 3500, and maybe a smaller truck.

Thanks man!
Yeah, We shall see.
I need to get at least one more skid of stone for the outside of my house. Should weigh in around 3000 - 3500lbs. It's better than borrowing my dad's 1500 and a friend's utility trailer, if you were interested.

I'd be stunned too. Personally I don't think you can write a fair review of a truck without testing its intended purpose(s).
