So my playoff ticket was for a seat I never used tonight! It was in the upper section and we decided to stand in the lower section all night. Wow, what a great game! I can't wait to see what Oswalt will do, but it's tough to beat a no hitter. So, does anyone wanna buy my ticket for Friday? I'm happy as hell to go to a couple of playoff games but this already exceeds my best hopes. Go Phillies!

Yanks pulled it out, and the big bats came up. Back to back Tex and Arod is a tough combo, hard to pitch around. One of them is gunna make something happen.
Mo pitched another amazing game and sealed the deal. That call on that catch was ********, but Im glad Thome swung on the first pitch.

Yes, that was a lousy call, but still not as bad as the call last year against the Twins that handed the Yanks the game. MLB really needs to find a way to use replay without slowing down the game. The technology is available so they need to use it.

Wow, what a terribly managed game by Texas! Why was the 3rd baseman playing up on the grass in the 8th when you have a 4 run lead and give up a double for no reason? Wait, let's change the pitcher for every batter until we give the Yanks the lead, that makes more sense! :-x The playoffs seem to bring the worst out of every team. I thought Minn giving the Yanks the first game was bad, this was a joke.

Looked good from this side. You must have something wrong with your TV?
Yanks just hammered the hell out of everything Texas had to give them in the 8th. Burning up the entire bullpen, trying to stop the bleeding...love it.
The pick-off was the thing that sealed the Ranger's fate.

Timmy takes down Doc in the show down!!
Neither pitcher looked overly impressive and the umpire was inconsistant with the low strike call so it affected both of them. It was a close game like everyone expected, but most people figured it would be 1-0. Phils had plenty of chances to score runs and left them on base.

...and Yankees have big name players and they got embarrassed in Game 2...so what's that say? If it wasn't for a meltdown in Game 1 they'd be in a ig whole...again....what's your point?

Yeah, talk about ironic. I guess you need to talk bad about a player to get him to perform! I have no idea what they are thinking throwing an inside pitch to Ross, he tees off on every one of them. Phils had some nice defensive plays and that's what makes the difference this time of the year. Gotta love the pitchers getting hits too! Good thing Oswalt ran through that stop sign.

That is what's killing me Jeff. I don't care that he started Blanton, Joe did his job. But the refusal to play small ball in a close game....I mean they teach that in Babe Ruth League at 14 and 15yrs old.
I think they're done, I mean it's certainly possible they can come back, it's possible with their lineup but it's highly unlikely. Kudos to the Giants for getting hot at the right time and kudos to the Phillies for making them look better than what they are.

Frosty
10-21-2010, 12:43 PM
I do, he's very rarely steered this team wrong, last night was just a glaring example of them not playing the small ball. They could hide it when the bats are on fire, they can just knock the ball around power their way to runs but when you're not doing that, in a close game you need to do the little things. Just my opinion.
I'm certainly not saying Charlie sucks, in fact I like him a lot. He's probably STILL the most underrated manager in baseball.

10-21-2010, 01:10 PM
Its the players... Ryan Howard is great during the season but the past 2 yrs he has not done anything really in the playoffs.. Last year in the WS he struck out how many times? Utley has had a bad year all year long. Raul is slumping, Victorino is not a good leadoff hitter.. Chooch, Werth, and Polanco are the most reliable players we have. They picked up sweeney for a reason. I would let him pinch hit or let him play against lefties.. The only flaw I have on Charlie is that sometimes he is to loyal to his players..

Its both the ALCS and the NLCS that the umps are having a strange strike zone. I watched 100's of games during the season but it seems that the strike zone during the season is different then the strike zone during the playoffs. Yup, just got back from the game and what a pathetic effort by the Phils once again. How can you jump on a team 2-0 in the first inning and do nothing after chasing how many pitchers! To lose 3 games by 1 run shows how poorly managed this team is. Ruiz bunting was the only attempt at playing smallball so they definitely don't deserve to go any farther than this. I still can't believe they ended up with the best record in baseball and have the worst slumping offense in baseball at the same time!

Baseball JUST started becoming a sport in Philly. How long have the Phillies been there? And how many years were they good enough to have parades? In 3 years, they won 1, lost 1, and just missed one, losing to a "lesser team"
Football is the same story. Few good seasons, but over the stretch, overall middle of the road team.

Al, you're dead wrong about Philly. This has been a football town for the better part of 2 decades and beyond. Just because they haven't brought home a super bowl doesn't mean anything.
...and LOL@your comment about hockey players. They're probably the nicest athletes you'll ever meet when it comes to fans and taking the time for charity work, signing autographs etc. They're 5x's the athletes and 10x's the professionals football and baseball players could ever be. No steroid controversies, a very rare legal issue here and there...but then you dislike the sport so you're biased. I'd love to see you on skates though, it'd be funny :D;):D

How are the Eagles over the past 10 yrs a middle of the road team? They made it to 5 NFC championship games and 1 Super bowl.. They made it to the playoffs 2 or 3 other times and got knocked out before the NFC championship game. So for 5 of the last 10 years they were a Top 4 team or better.. That doesnt sound like a middle of the road type of team to me..
As far as the Phillies go. I am 29 yrs old and went to about 20-25 games a year at the Vet for the Phillies in the 90's! I have stood by the Phillies for all those years. To me the biggest sports team in the area is and has always been the Phillies.
As far as hockey goes. I would love to see you say that to a NHL player.

Why is Jeter a lead off hitter? He used to be good, I respect that. Im a yanlee fan. But now he sucks, it happens, people get old, be a captian, let a real lead off hitter lead off,. If you cant hit or steal a base let someone who can.

OMG IT’S ALL GOING WRONG 9 GAMES IN!!!!!!! Fu*&in’a last week it was Boston fans, now it is Yankee fans. Settle down.
I have faith in #2. The season is all of 9 games old. Let’s not push the panic button yet. Hell a week ago they were saying Textiera was smoking hot out of the gate. Now they are saying he sucks in April again as he rides an 0-15 streak.
Writers are stupid. They keep saying Jeter ‘abandoned his new swing’ because they don’t know the difference between a stride forward, a stride in (what he used to do) and a toe tap. There should be a rule about writing about baseball and actually understanding the nuances. The toe tap approach seems to work well for Pulhols (and at least 1/3 of the league) so I think Jeter can do it. They need to write about pulhols dropping his hands right now which is why he isn’t hitting like himself – the best in baseball that is.
Who should lead off for the yanks? Gardner isn’t hitting any better and based on the 9 game panic logic he never will. Granderson has like a .350 lifetime OBP so he sure isn’t the answer. Exactly who on the current 25 man roster should lead off?

it's not a matter of a pedestal, although I think his track records allows for more than 10 games before we throw him out. A first ballot HOF gets a bit more rope than a 3rd year kid. it's a matter of pragmatism. the roster is what it is. You start moving him around you screw up the rest of the lineup – they like being able to break up lefties/righties. there is no prototypical leadoff hitter on this team.

because hes the CAPTAIN. that is the highest regard to any player in that organization. he may not be the hitter he was but he can still play. yeah his best years are behind him. and you have to look at all the times he came through in that big spot. thats why. its not like the guy can't play, he can oviously still play the field, and he can oviously still hit....oh and by the way, Jeter is only leading off against lefties....against righties its Gardner. Yankee fan are coming to the end of an era, within the next 3 or 4 years there will be no more Riviera, and no more Jeter, and no more Posada....we hold the highest regard to these players no matter what they do

The Yanks/Detroit game being suspended tonight sucks for the pitching matchup. I know when the Phils/Rays World Series game was suspended and both teams lost their best pitchers it really made a lot of fans mad on both sides. But in that game it was obvious rain was on the way. Tonight, it really popped up fast and wasn't really expected to be this bad. I'm surprised they even played the top of the 2nd the way the rain was coming down. Good thing nobody got injured in those conditions. You play 162 games to get to this point and you don't want to lose anybody because of bad weather but MLB needs to pull their head out of their :moon: and stop risking injuries when this happens.

Well the phils just failed worse than the yanks considering the hype of their starting staff. In april everyone had the phils beating the red sox in the series and lots of experts picked the yanks to come in 3rd in the east. So I don't think what the yanks accomplished this year was a total failure.

Let me find the salt for your wound and bust out the i-told-you-so-stick
philly radio was comparing this rotation to the braves big rotation of the 90s. which the yanks beat twice. Just saying.
IMO the offer the yanks made was too long. Just like arod's and crawford's deal, and werth too. this will force the yanks to come up with a real plan, not overpay to sign a 33 year old guy who went 3-2 in the playoffs last year.
Yeah because the 90's and today have so much in common...but hey if that helps you sleep at night keep thinking what the Braves had as a rotation in 90's has any bearing on today :rofl::rofl::moon::moon::moon:
Yup, you were right tony, there sure was nothing to be learned from history! lol. On the record I called how bad a deal crawford was the sox too. And said Jeter would be fine (.297 seems ok by me). But what do I know about baseball? lol

All the talk about the phils having the best staff ever so I reminded phil fans about how the braves had arguably the best staff ever in the 90s, with piles of cy youngs and they only won the series once. I then went on to find other great staffs across many decades that did not win the series. point was it takes more than pitching, history proved it. and again now. they got no farther than the yanks did and they had a rookie and freddie garcia start in the playoffs, and had bartolo colon eat lots of innings this year. And burnett.
if you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it. and don't make series plans in April. I'm looking at you Boston lol

Just got back from the game and it was no surprise the offense killed them in the end. I knew at the start of the season they had great pitching, but when you have no offense you will still lose those low scoring games. Can't blame Halladay for this loss but why the heck Charlie let Polanco actually bat and swing away in the 8th is stupid. Lots of stupid stuff going on and they deserve to end the season this way.
