As of today they're officially done :( The contract expires today.

A big thank you to GM for ****ing them up, for ruining the name.

Wait, if there's no pontiac how will they make a 5th gen firebird. Are you telling me I've been saving up money for nothing?

Give it 20 years when GM give up the patent for Pontiac and some fan nut tries to buy it and botch it up big time....

My Pontiac left me stranded this morning. I think it was upset to hear the corporation was closing, so it protested. It's hard to push a sedan home!

From an NY Times article last week...

Mr. Wangers, who was born the same year as Pontiac and never thought he would outlive it, recalls the time that the German luxury carmaker BMW (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/bayerische_motoren_werke_ag/index.html?inline=nyt-org) sent a team of engineers, designers and marketers to meet with Mr. DeLorean’s team and study how the brand did so well.

...how things changed.

Pontiac had a great image and an ability to attract young buyers.
But everything that you could apply to GM in the 1960's has zero use now. Zero.

Thank you GM for killing the brand which was simply a repackaging of something else offered by your own company, in turn competing against yourself.

Well at least I got mine. The way I look at it let the past be the past. GM is still making some good stuff that a Pontiac fan would appreciate.

I have my 02 WS6 and a Firehawk. Will be looking into getting a 04-06 GTO in the future as well. Those cars will be a hard car to purchase in the future.

Everybody is complaining about GM getting rid of Pontiac. I say thanks to GM for making Pontiac cars as they are a big part of my life. It sucks that they wont be making anymore of them but it also makes me appreciate my cars alot more.

Glad I could make you feel warm inside.
The death of Pontiac should have been something that happened before I was born. Once GM got down to 30% market share, they needed to shed weight to focus the brands.
Before this goes quazi political, Pontiac's death was decided in 2007, with an eventual wind down by 2013-14.

Why then did they make the G8 a Pontiac, when they knew it was going down? I know it was never planned to be a long production car, but they could have easily made it a Chevy or a Buick and improved brand image.

The G8 was planned to be a part of Holden's line up from jump street. So that was set in motion before the deal to kill the brand.
Holden has been hurting to fill the void, which is why there is a large push inside GM to get a VE2 car here now.
And we will...give it another year till we see a Chevy badged RWD sedan here.
