I could totally go back and forth to work on just electric. Shame I don't have good enough electrical service for it.

Yeah, I'm probably a perfect candidate for a Volt. 10 minute drive to work. Maybe I should start to lobby work to put in some "fill up" outlets! I would definitely want to upgrade my service at home, I think we're 100 amp and I know the lights dim when you turn on the vacuum.

how much does it cost to charge it, i see numbers but wonder how high your electric bill would run

According to the the numbers on the sticker, average price would be $601 / year for pure electric power. So figure your electric bill would rise by about $50 / month, and your gasoline bill for the year would be practically $0 (since the engine does have to run once in a while for lubrication and whatnot).

It really depends on where you live. GM says $1.50 a day average it will cost you to charge the car from empty to full. Some places have variable pricing for electricity, so its cheaper at night then it is durring the day.

Maint. stuff will be the same as any other GM car. OLM will tell you when to change your oil, etc.
There are specially trained techs at dealers that will be trained to deal with the Volt since the car will have limited availability for the next few years.
