I will be participating in the Tough Mudder Tri-State event on October 20/21. The teamwork and camaraderie I see at these events and as you'll see in the photos was unlike anything I've seen before.
Tough Mudder just opened up registration for Tri-State located at Englishtown Raceway on Oct 20 and 21.

I have a team going, as always. Saturday 10/20 at 11:00 am.
Team Name: Fania Mudding Co.
Password: roofs
Of course, I'm a glutton for punishment and doing both Saturday and Sunday events
It is modeled after British Special Forces training by actual members of the special forces, with 19 obstacles in 12 miles. Of course they added a few others in between some stretches of running so that we wouldn't be let down. About 25% didn't finish the event at all, and about 50% skipped at least one obstacle - The water obstacles were among the most popular to be skipped since the water was 37 degrees. It was by far the most fun I've ever had and I already created a team for the next event in April at Bear Mountain if anyone wants to join in on the fun, or watch the madness.
Our event alone raised just over $300,000 for the Wounded Warriors fund after costs. Numerous members of the armed forces participated or were otherwise present at the events (if you look, there's Marine's pushing anyone off the platform who was too scared to jump into the lake). If anyone would like to donate to the cause, http://www.raceit.com/fundraising/donate.aspx?event=10006&fundraiser=r2794401 (Neither my team nor myself gets anything for getting people to donate. The money raised goes straight to the Wounded Warriors Fund.)
This is how all the start groups began the competition, after the Tough Mudder pledge and the national anthem. This happened every 20 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=426fkvs0_bc
