They just came out in the last year and they are.not cheap. I'm not sure anyone here has one. I know of some guys who run them and it seems they are working for them.

As far as holding up they seem to take big hp at least for the auto-x/road race guys.

What are you planning on for hp and what is your intended use?

well i bought the blueprint 383 block from jegs and the 550 hp top end kit from trick flow. heads at 72cc but im prob going to get a set that are 64cc for some more compression, not exactly sure what hp ill be lookin at. as far as use, just a nice street car that looks good and fast. may run it once or twice just to get some times but dont plan on frequenting the track. more of just a weekend cruiser to the shore.

I don't think you'll break that trans.

well, i know i wont break it, im looking for more of an idea of the troubles ill have on install, ive read that the xmember doesnt line up, however i got the spohn crossmember with the tourque arm attached to that, just really lookin to see what problems people have run into on install.

this trans was brought up on TGO a while back. Apparently its derived from the t6060, and has small syncro teeth that can strip during a missed shift or something like that.

Not sure how well it fits into the tunnel since the tail shaft area is pretty large

Yup. T56 Magnum is derived from the 6060 and I think the rating is 750 lb-ft or so?

well, my apologies on misrepresentation of the question lol, thanks for the input though, just trying to find a good trans that i can bolt right in. was going to go with the lt1 t56 but i was under the impression that it may not hold up too well.

The 94-97 T56's are still rated at 450 lb-ft and are much cheaper (even upgraded) IIRC.

I think you'd be fine with that trans and it may be your best bet for a smooth install, although I do not have experience putting a t56 into a 3rd gen. The torque arm part is the unknown for me.

Worst case is if you have issues down the road you take the trans to bob hanlon and he can make it as strong as a magnum. By then you have it installed and such.

The torque arm is a non-issue. AFAIK all 3rd and 4th gen trans mount torque arms are completely interchangeable, so an LT1 T56 in a 3rd gen is no issue.

So a 4th gen t56 may be a better install than the aftermarket magnum?

at least the t56 is charted territory, unlike the magnum. there are conversion parts available, and do your research bofore buying anything.

the biggest complaint about the t56 on tgo is the lack of a good crossmember for it. Any one with a TA attached, will sit really low, and the good ones from Skulte is no longer available. I think there are some new offerings from hawks though, but its just the crossmember, no TA mount.

Depending on what you are doing with the car, there are some tunnel mounted TA's available that eliminate the need to mount the TA to the trans or the crossmember.

so with the lt1 t56 will my spohn xmem with TA attached work?
