I picked up a set of draglites(15x8, 15x3.5), and Im debating back and forth on different drag tires. Basically, I feel I dont know enough to choose a proper tire for my setup.

Setup:
Full tubular rear suspension, TA is chassis mount, 1.25" adj drag bar
Summit drag shocks set at 50/50
Front suspension is stock

Motor is a H/C ls1, dyno'd 399 hp unlocked
4l60e w/ shift kit, vigilante 4000ish stall

I'll most likely be getting an s60 with 3.73 gears before I hit the track with the drag wheels, so Im not worried about launching hard.

I was cutting consistent 1.6 to 1.7 60' on my replica 17" wheels with et streets, ramping into it off idle. You can see my best launch in the link in my sig.

Drag tire suggestions?

With a 3.73 gear I would say a 275/50 ET street still having you retain some streetability.

Are you talking slicks or DOTs?

I'am considering a set of D.O.T. Drag Radials. Would anybody recommend the Mickey Thompson ET Drag Radial or the NEW Goodyear Eagle SS Drag Radials?

I have 3:73 gears in the Formula and I wish I had my original 3:23 gears back again. There is just too much low end torque to give it any gas off the line or I light up the tires, so I walk it out and then get on it.

A few years ago I had a chance to drive a highly modified Collector Edition 2002 T/A 6-speed and it had the NEW Mickey Thompson ET drag radials on. It was really hard to break them loose, it seems like they really hooked up quite well.

I followed that thread when it was started, but most of it is opinions on street tires...and I already run et streets. Im looking for a dedicated drag tire setup for the set of draglites I picked up.

Everyone seems to recommend QTPs for a 6 speed, and I havent seen that much info on them behind a stalled auto. Im leaning towards getting QTPs and bias ply fronts...so basically I guess Im asking if there are any negatives I should consider with running them? or is there a better choice for stalled auto?

Hoosier Quick Time PRO's are the best as far as I'm concerned. They require a very small burnout ...just the second you see smoke roll out and they hook. They last forever and aren't bad at all on the street as long as it's dry.

For a track only set of tires i would consider the Hoosier drag radial. They fall kind of between you typical drag radial and bias ply tire. They are quite a bit lighter than the other brand drag radials but still offer the improved rolling resistance of a radial over a bias ply. Less rolling resistance will equal quicker times and they are also more stable than a bias ply tire on the big end. If you want to stick with a bias ply tire the Hoosier QTP will also accomplish what you are looking for.

I bought hoosier QTPs and bias fronts last week...

The hoosier radials looked nice but they were only 5 lbs lighter than et streets.

My brother's TA....h/c/i dyno'd 458rwhp 200hp nos 3:73's 3800 stall t400 on qt pros pulls 1.3 60's on the trans brake.

ive been cutting low 1.5 60's with the vette using a 275 40 17 mt street radial, but i only made 358 to the wheels with the converter locked. go with a slick!

I went with Hoosier QTPs in the back and matching bias ply in the front...just got them mounted to the wheels today actually. What would be a good starting point for tire pressure with these? Im guessing like 15-17 psi?

Ive seen people running that tire at 12.5-13psi

I would start at 22 and work down from there. Below 12 is a little shakey on the top end. Use the highest air pressure that allows you to hook, higher the air pressure the more MPH you will get on the top end. Work down in 1/2 psi increments.

If QTP tires are sooooooo bad then why are they on soooooo many pro eliminator cars running points at Atco, Maple, Cecil, Island, Numidia, and Raceway ?????
