Is this do-able? My 97 has a v6 and they have that goofy 2 pice drive shaft, well the carrier bearing is shot, could i just upgrade to the v8 style 1 piece aluminum no prob? Or would i have to switch the tq arm and stuff?
If it is possible to switch, whos got a ds?

Yeah it is doable. The carrier support should unbolt from the torque arm and you are good to go.

Maybe I am remembering something wrong but don't you have to grind or cut off part of the torque arm where the 2 piece driveshaft bolts into it. I could have sworn there was a interference on someone's car when we installed a 3 inch driveshaft in there but I could be remembering wrong as that was like 7 years ago.

Nah I do recall those tabs but I thought they were part of the support. If they are on the torque arm, I would either grind them off or bend them back away from the drive shaft, the shaft and arm are going to move together so as long as they aren't touching you should be fine.

No tabs to cut from what I've heard, nor did I hae to do on my own V6. I loved when I lifted out the 2 piece barely and then one handed the aluminum one up there.

that was my 97 and yeah we had to grind a bit of that mounting area in the middle

Don't you have a 3.5" driveshaft though?

Kasey had a LS1 driveshaft in his car from my car first and then I sold him the 3.5 Aftermarket driveshaft out of my car after we modified his torque arm for the LS1 shaft (Again, if I am remembering this correctly) but I am pretty sure thats how it went down.

if you end up needing a torque arm i think i have a stock one sitting around off my ta that you can have.
yea i had to cut/grind kaseys to fit the 3.5" DS but a stock ls1/lt one should work fine, i even painted kaseys red where i cut it to prevent rust, ...the black widow torque arm...lmao
