A big thanks to Raist103 for hooking me up with a great deal and putting up with my ridiculous requests and pestering. Also, a big thanks to my buddy John Willy who will never see this, but had his guy repair and refinish the lips for a song. I'm ordering the tires tonight, and they should be mounted soon. In the meantime, here is a shot of John's GTI on bags. These are his old wheels (note the 6 lug) and the unique pop-out rear window with hardware retrofitted from a first gen Caravan. Not really the style of most people here, but I promise the work put into this car would impress many of you. He also delivered the wheels to me in this car. A truly great bloke who bent over backwards for someone he had only met once.

Stay tuned.

He is a great guy. Excellent, excellent people.
No and my family makes fun of me whenever I use the bathroom scale to weigh car parts, so I'll get around to it as soon as I'm home alone.

Wheels look pretty sick.
When are you going to buy a volkswagon?
And when are we going to see your car wrapped?
qwikz28

I'll likely buy a VW when I can afford one (after my bagged Caprice of course). I love that scene.
As for the wrap, I was forced to rip it off. My buddy helping me threw in the towel and I tried to finish it myself and the finished product was awful. Back to silver and unpainted hood for now. This is the best picture of it that I have:

VW people are very creative with their rides, many of them want to have the lowest possible car with the most unique wheels.
C5 Z06 wheels are just one of the many unique combos

Wheel has a very narror tire due to lack of room for wide tires possible that maybe the biggest it may have is a 225 width.

As for those VWs, I prefer function over form. But that's just me :D

06-05-2011, 11:42 PM
Thanks guys. Didn't realize there was so much love for FM5s around here. :) It's the normal Technipolish finish on the wheel face which is essentially a clear coated machine finish, while the lips are normal polished lips.
As for form over function, I agree usually. The Camaro will always be about function. But i still appreciate a low car. It's the hot rodder side of me. Having driven in a car so low before, the looks of confusion it gets are amazing. I can't wait to find a mid 90s Caprice/Impala on air ride and throw sparks down the street. This is what its all about:

I'd love to see what your car looks like wrapped. I've been thinking about wrapping mine but it's red so I'm not sure how I'd feel about everything matte black except under the hood. Wrapping a car is an art and certainly not easy. My guy makes it look like cake though. He did one of my bikes and it came out great. But then again that's his business. He's done stuff for the yankees, gran turismo 5, hell everything u can think of.

Mike- what makes them versatile? I currently have Falken Azenis and they are fantastic. Great in the rain, gripped fantastic, and looked good. I'm hoping that these will be similar at least.

I have no experience with the Falken Azenis, so I can't compare to them. I'm sure someone else knows though, and will chime in. But, what I do know is that the NT05s hooked well enough on the street, they handled *great*, they had a better treadwear than the ET Streets, looked good (although that wasn't much of a concern of mine), and weren't bad in the rain whenever I drove them--granted, I don't drive the car in the rain often, and if I do, I don't do anything stupid.
Hope that helps. Gonna PM you some time this week, BTW. Keep an eye on your inbox! ;)

Aye. As for the Nittos, are you talking about the drag radials? Because these are a newer tire that are more street and handling biased.

That's close to my setup! Same exhaust, but with a similar sized (lower lift though) TTP cam. For a cammed car, it is pretty quiet. Nothing like my old Corsa which sounded like a machine gun.

One step closer. I now only have to put the car in the air to replace the brake pads (glazed from the HPDE), brake fluid (cooked from the HPDE), and power steering fluid (most of it is in my engine bay); then finally adjust the parking brake and then throw the wheels on. Hoping to have all that done on Thursday.
On a side note, I picked up my car from Josh yesterday and that new clutch is a monster. I put 125 miles on it last night, and I can feel it breaking in quite a bit, but it still has quite a ways to break in. There is no way to describe it other than it is just a monster.

My cousin's 2011 SS. We picked it up from a dealer in Livingston on Thursday evening. We've been cruising around all weekend. He's my right hand man (or my "mini-me" as an old lady friend used to call him) and I'm sure he got it to follow in my footsteps. Naturally, it was a big deal for me.

Finally, I know. The fitment is great. They really make the car pop. The back tires are rubbing on hard turns but otherwise, these tires are just insane. Ride quality has improved a bit too. Hopefully next year I'll be able to get the body work that I wanted to make this thing up to 100%. For now though, she definitely looks much better than before.

I just swapped out for some ceramic pads, and I did some research on wheel waxes a few weeks ago. I'll likely order some next week.
As for removing the tints, it's really a combination of factors. Three main reasons actually: vision at night, cops, and both sides have tears in them. Additionally, while I think they look good, my buddy hates them and he nags me about it. It will be nice to end that nagging (he lurks this forum so I'm sure he'll read this actually). :)

I love it. Mine replaced my B&M. The feel is far more positive and the throws are much shorter. I never ran a Pro 5.0, but I like it far better than the stock hurst with a short stick and B&M.

Holy crap man!?!?! How hard was putting in the GTO seats? Being that third and 4th gen floors are nearly identical...
Tough. Really tough. Took a ton of problem solving to get it to work (considering my level of ability). It was worth it in the end though. I didn't take many pics as I worked because a ton of it was guess and check, but I'll try and explain the steps involved. I don't think anyone on LS1tech was able to get them in at stock height like I did. Since I eliminated all the guess work, it should be easy for anyone trying to do it from here.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j218/Snake3660/IMG_0622.jpg
So I used Sparco sliders and Scat/Procar F-body specific mounts. To mate the seat to the sliders, I had to remove the GTO power seat mechanism and mounts. I then cut into the wiring and left only the power and ground coming from the recline motor (which is built into the seat). The seat and recline motor combo is less than 20 pounds. Not surprisingly, the bolts on the seat were slightly wider than the slider holes, and were much longer (about 3 inches). I then drilled out the front holes on the slider, and used flat aluminum stock that I had drilled holes 3 inches apart to bolt the seat to the sliders. I then had to dremel the ends of bolts coming from the seat to allow the slider to move up close enough for me to reach the pedals. Lastly, I used speaker terminals to attach the power and ground from the power recline motor (same as pictured below) to attach to the stock harness for the power seats; thus leaving me with manual sliding and power reclining seat that is not height adjustable. Oh, and I used the seatbelt bracket from a BMW Z4 so my seatbelt doesn't go across my face (see above). The end result is a super comfy seat with decent bolsters that isn't like sitting on a phonebook. Rear seat legroom is now nonexistant by the way as the GTO seat is massive.

First off, the car looks great! The only way I think it could be better if those rims were on my car. :D
