Hey Guys,
I've been a member on here for years and I guess I lost touch around the time I started going to college. I graduated and now have some plans for my car.
It's a 1995 V6 Camaro that was given to me when I was 16. I obviously never really did much do it because it was a V6 but I always did try to keep it in good shape.
It's now got 209k miles and still running... well hobbling (needs new clutch, timing cover gasket, suspension all around, brakes, etc.)... but I have some plans on rebuilding pretty much the whole car. I know most of you will say dumb it and buy a V8 but that isn't what I want to do. It's more or less something I want to do as a learning experience and I'm not going to go wild throwing any crazy amounts of money in to it.
I am going to take my time and do just a V8 swap (nothing too crazy) and restoration throughout the interior and exterior. I want it as a nice weekend / summer day car that I can enjoy. So I will definitely be posting on here more often becoming more active again and I will definitely have tech questions as the project goes along.
I'm looking to get an 09 Cobalt SS as a DD.
So anyway... I guess i'm just reintroducing myself to everyone and will hopefully be more active in actually making it out to events.

good luck with the resto....welcome back, and those turbo cobalts can be fun, and they are very receptive to mods....i know someone who has one that put down 395 HP at the wheels on a mustang dyno on a stock turbo

I swapped my 95 3.4 for an lt1. Just get the motor harness and engine compartment harness from a 95 along with the v8 gauges and everything electrical will work. You also need fans, kmember, and some other things along the way.

Great, thanks for the info I think this is what I'm planning on doing.

I never thought of that actually. Is this true? I guess they just go by VIN # huh?

Yeah, but if you wreck it then you get V6 payout. Unless you run liability only.

Yeah if you get that much customization you should get an appraiser to come out at the end before you put it on the road so god forbid if something happens you get top dollar

how much more $$ is a 209k mile 95 Camaro v8 worth over a v6 to an insurance company? $1.29?
Unless you are going collector car insurance, all this matters not. For coverage via a regular carrier it is probably not worth it to carry comp & collision. And a 'converted' car will always be worth less than a Z28 to a carrier. If you get an agreed value collector policy then 'worth' it matters.
In short, don't fret about insurance.

I would worry about passing a V8 emissions for a V6.

And I believe it is called insurance fraud as well and if your insurance company finds out you swapped a V8 into a V6 car and still only have V6 insurance they will probably not cover the car in a accident and you will get sued.. The chance of this happening is not that high but there is still a chance.
