Researching Model Sales Figures

Where can I go to get sales figures (raw or refined) for the 2010 model year, for the GMC Terrain and the Chevy Equinox? How does the press get ahold of sales figures and do they estimate the numbers in some way, or are they connected via some public relations contacts within the auto makers?

My interest is in some way determining the best time of year to purchase the above vehicles. Given the way both vehicles flew off the lots during winter months, will there be a slow down in sales during summer months, or are these two selling very well year 'round? With only one model year to really compare, it's a tough read but something I want to look into.

without looking at the numbers, the Nox and Terrain are still selling very well. Numbers are generated and sent via PR release on the first of every month.
Nox is selling so well, they cannot make them fast enough. They have to put them on a rail, truck them from the CAMI plant to Oshawa (Camaro/Imapala) to be painted, and then truck them back to CAMI to be finished.
If you want to wait, the 2012 Nox will feature MyLink system that will sync your smartphone to your car. There will be apps so that you can play Pandora, Stitcher, etc etc through the car from your phone. Cool tech.

The Nox is really selling that well? We test drove one and honestly I thought it was a complete POS. We then drove the Traverse and it was much much better quality wise. Unfortunately we're not looking for a vehicle that big.

I had the complete and total opposite reaction Paul. Traverse still has a lot of the old GM stuff inside, while Nox had a lot more of GM's newer tech. Materials and fit/finish were a lot better, and the overall design is way more cohesive than Traverse.

Comparing the list price for both at Flemington Chevy / GMC, I see I can get a base AWD Nox for about $100 less than the FWD Terrain base model.

Two years ago I jumped on a thread here about the Terrain, spent those two years looking a lot of stuff, and have come full circle. Now I just need to decide if I like the looks and interior lighting of the Terrain more than the AWD capabilities of the Equinox.

Over the winter I was SUV shopping and looked at the Nox, Terrain, and a bunch of others. I thought the Nox was OK but I did not like the "tug" they all had (I drove 6 of them, don't ask) when applying the gas. In the end I ended up getting a very good deal on a Ford Edge.

I understand what you mean about that "tug" feeling when you hit the accelerator. A 4cyl moving a small/mid sized SUV seems underwhelming, even when you stomp on the pedal.

But the price point of those two is right for me, the space inside is right for a family with three kids that I occasionally have to drive around myself (with equipment) and the style is pleasing to me, especially the red interior lighting of the Terrain (yeah I know, clinging to the memories of Pontiac). And like you Bill, I'm hoping for the Very Good Deal when I plan to buy at the end of the year. Here's hoping.

Looking at the sales figures Al supplied, and the lack of movement with Flemingtons inventory over the past few weeks suggests things are slowing a little now that snow season is gone. So I have the dilema - wait until the end of year sales and hope I can get the Very Good Deal despite it being snow season, or go early (or 2012) summer and hope the slow movement of sales prompts the Very Good Deal.

Did you look at the Acadia? My brother has one and it fits the bill perfectly for him, his wife, and their 3 boys.

The Acadia would be my first choice but its a much different price point, by a few thousand.
