I'm trying to figure out how to "properly" figure out the offset on my water pump pulley. Some one had said to flip it upside down on a flat table and measure from the table to the middle of each groove.

Also does any one have a pulley that may fit? or know some where I may be able to find it?
I need a 5 3/4" - 6" diameter pulley
Offset (using the above way of figuring out the offset)
1" from the table to the center of the first groove 1 5/8" from the table to the middle of the second groove.

Can you use a wire brush and some white paint to lift a GM part number?

I can probably get something off it after work
My problem is it's 8" and I need a 5 3/4" - 6" one

I just checked it and right off the bat I know it's not the right pulley
The part # on the front says
XF 3786819
I looked on-line and I think the pulley I'm looking for is 9796061

Does your car have power steering? And what year is your motor? I do not recall.

Yes it has power steering and it's a '68 400 (we think, if not it's a 350) block with an 8-bolt water pump.
64-68 Firebird's and GTO's with 350-400's were what they were put on.

Some one is taking my pulley and a smaller pulley, cutting the offset and welding mine to the smaller one. He's done it numerous times and it seems to work.

Huh, that's one I never heard of. Is it that hard to get the right one?
