This video is kind of cool as it gives you a little idea of how hard it is for the Jersey speed skiffs to turn at speed. The video is a little slow at the beginning and they have some issues in the middle but it's a pretty cool perspective.

Pretty wild stuff! I was waiting for them to smash the bulkhead in the beginning...

Yeah, the Garveys can make the turns a lot easier because of the skegs they have sticking out of the bottom of the boats. The skiffs just have a small rudder to turn with and they use the sides of the boat to dig into the water for the turns which make them a lot tougher to race.

They are racing in Waretown this Sunday so I plan on heading down to watch the races. The gavery's look to be a little more stable but I think the skiff would be more fun on the river!

New club is in Waretown, the old one is in Tuckerton this Sunday. Garvey's are slightly safer but can't be registered as a pleasure boat since they don't have thru hull exhaust

It looks like the new club has a bigger turnout of boats for the races. It's a shame they split apart. More boats = more classes = more heats = more racing. There's also a completely different group of Jersey Skiff racers that race up and down the east coast into Canada.

They race a bigger course so the turns aren't as tight which makes it easier for the skiffs.

Yeah, it's a real shame. I only saw the new club race in Cedar Creek but from what I see on their facebook page and talking to people they get about 50% more boats than the old club. Old club has no skiffs left either.

Nick, were you at the races today? It was a good turnout but a couple of boats weren't running right.

I was going to go mess around with them and rile them up but I ended up having to go to a random family thing in Frenchtown so I left around noon and couldn't make it :(
Weather turned out real nice as I was leaving the shore too. I have yet to make it to a Jersey Outlaws race this year damnit!
