Yesterday I went to go look at an 01 Z28 for sale and the car ran fine and looked fine other than two things I saw that I didn't like. The paint needs to be done for the entire rear (which is fine.. I hate pewter anyway) and then there was this... weird job under the car.

Like both sides this piece of medal was a little bent and looked just generally weird as if something was welded or slapped together (maybe this is normal.. I don't know, not smart on cars). This is near the rear axle. What is this? Vehicle history says it wasn't in any accidents.. but I don't trust CARFAX.
Also, on the CARFAX.. it says twice that it had possible mileage roll backs, should I be deterred?

Looks like an aborted sfc install that went wrong. Or it was used as a jack point and fixed. Not sure...

Would it be something I should worry about? Also the check gauges light was on, and he said it was because he didnt have a lot of gas. I never got that for my car (1998) so not sure if that's another problem

The check gauges light does come on when the gas is low... usually about when the needle hits the red mark.

All that picture shows is that someone used that area to jack up the car and it bent.
Next, if you hate Pewter and want a different color because the entire car needs to be repainted, figure on spending $3-4,000 on a decent paint job, which will be made more difficult because every door jam/ hood edge/ trunk lid etc., will need to be painted to cover a different color. Better idea is to look for one that has a color you like and doesn't need to be repainted.

Any way of rolling back the miles on the gauge cluster?

No... But the clusters swap out very easy.

Look at the history it seems like it's been leased and taken back a few times.. I offered 5400 for it and the seller would take that. Is the car worth it? Can someone make objections/point out stuff from the carfax?

The so-called rollbacks could just be someone entering the wrong mileage when they titled/registered it or had it worked on. It looks like a stock car but you would need to look at it closer to see if there are any signs of mods being removed.

Those pictures are old, from atleast three years ago.. the paint in the rear section needs to be redone. And yeah, i'm fairly sure that this is a 100% stock car.

if you look at half way through the registration's from dmv, you will notice it goes from 43,000 down to 29,000.

But that could be somebody reporting the wrong number. If it was really 49,000 and dmv put 29,000 it doesn't mean it was rolled back. The mileage jumps up pretty good from the 29K so it might have really been 49K. NJ dmv records your mileage when you go through inspection but other states might not so it's just whatever was filled out on the form.

I bought it.. over heated on the parkway, coolant all over the engine but it's not a hose leak from what I can see. Filled the coolant reservoir with water and drove it, still heats up but doesnt lose water. Assuming this is the water pump.
