so i'm about to get my hands on a 94-97 S10 with the 2.2L for cheap. the engine is bad from what i hear so i plan on just getting a running 2.2 and swapping it in.
though if i can get my hands on one for a good price, i want to get one of the 2.0-2.4L ecotecs that are in the cobalts.
since i'm not really going up too much in displacement/power would i have to do anything to the fuel lines?
and to swap one in would i just need the complete engine, computer, wiring harness, and gauge cluster? i already know that i would need an adapter to mate it to the 5 speed.

I'd imagine the motor mounts are in totally different locations?
I'd also think that the manifold/header isn't interchangeable.
What would you have to do to the fuel lines?! As long as both motors require the same amount of pressure to power the injectors, the pump and regulator are reusable.
I vote SBC. Easier, probably cheaper as well.

Don't forget all of the misc wiring and running of lines like coolant hoses.

not neccesarily different locations, i'd just be mounting the engine longitudinally opposed to it sideways. i saw someone with an S10 that had one swapped in, the Skys/Solstices had the same engine and its RWD.
yeah thats what i figured, i'm just used to seeing people go bigger so then the fuel is upgraded as well.
there are numerous other engines that are tempting but i already have my power vehicle, this will be strictly for DD/fuel economy.

what misc wiring are you thinking of?

what about the transmission? I don't know what you can use behind one of those engines.

theres this company that i bookmarked( the name escapes me) that sells an adapter plate that allows the stock manual transmission to me mounted up to it
