Alright..i have 2 cars as some of you know..i have an 86 trans am that is in amazing condition physically...but the mechanics are pretty screwed up at this point.. and i have an 89 formula..that looks like she's been through hell..but other then needing the engine rebuild, its mechanically sound. Which one should i ditch? i think the trans am might go..

It's hard to find a 3rdgen in good condition, why would you sell the nice one? Why not sell the Formy and take that $$$ fix the T/A?

But I guess we'd need to know the motivation behind selling one of them? Is having 2 just too much or do you NEED $$ for other things?

If you're just selling one just to get rid of it then it's a no brainer to sell the Formy IMO.

i'd rather deal with mechanical over body work any day

Keep the T/a!!

yeah, keep the TA and get it straightened out. It will be a lot cheaper and easier to have that car properly tuned/fixed than it will be to rebuild the other car and have it painted up to look as nice as your TA does.

Paint and body work are very expensive, so I vote to keep the Trans Am. How is the electrical system and the original wiring? If they are intact it shouldn't be too expensive "mechanically" to fix it up, but we definitely need more info on what it needs.

Step 1: Sell both
step 2: Buy convertible
Step 3: Profit

Now it's right.

But seriously I would keep the one in better physical condition. Much harder/more expensive to get right.

IIts going to be awfully difficult to sell a TBI formy. The plus side is its a 5 speed. The t/a pretty much looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, that's the one I would keep. Or you could sell both and buy mine hint hint lol

I say if you are only selling because you don't have the money to fix up both, why not just find someone who is doing an engine swap on a similar 3rd gen and grab a running 305 long block for next to nothing from them. You can wait around and try to find something halfway decent for cheap since the car is already parked and not really costing you anything by sitting. I'm sure it won't be too hard to find a few local members to help you swap a long block in a weekend for some pizza and beers.

Keep the t/a sell the formula and Do a stock ls1 swap and your choice of trans. It's the best of both worlds. Wish I just did this..

I don't understand why you would do that. For the price of a T56/LS1 conversion you can buy a 700R4 and build a 350 that would walk on a bolt on LS1.

agreed, plus the formula is a 5 speed.

think budget friendly guys, this girl has a ton of money floating around in these cars

just an honest opinion i would say is throw another cheap motor in the formula and sell it as is. you can recoop the engine cost at least and it would sell quicker, the only real down side to that car is that its TBI. but its still a 5 speed formula that can be a good driver and its easy to maintain

Well after reading this again, I say keep the one that runs if you need a car to drive everyday. That's the most budget friendly way.
