I don't think it's a repost..... and where was Al on this???

http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/images/12/2011/09/xlarge_untitled_album_-_2.jpg

SAE certified power at 580hp @ 6,000 RPM and torque is 556ft-lbs @ 4,200 RPM

Power to weight is 7.24 pounds per horsepower

It will run the next-generation magnetic suspension that GM has been using for years, a generation ahead of the CTS-V and ZR1

The car will be track-ready right from the dealership, with all necessary transmission, diff and brake-cooling systems installed at the plant

The Camaro ZL1 will be fitted with huge Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, P285/35ZR20 front, P305/35ZR20

I'm not a camaro fan..... but this will be a very fun car!

Saw the ZL1 at the Javits Center a few months back. First time I ever sat in a 5th gen was there, a new SS. Was extremely disappointed in all the blind spots and how I sat in the seat.

ZL1 appears pretty B/A though:

People with more money = better drivers???????

Oops, my bad - I didn't mean it that way - i e money.

I look at the "average joe" as someone like one of my brothers - he can barely handle the raw horsepower of his Prius.

Most drivers cannot handle the raw power/ handling of this beast.... so they shouldn't get it. They will kill either themselves or someone innocent.

I agree on this statement. Does money equal driving prowess? No, but there is a better chance that he/she with more money will be able to drive it.

The original ZL1 was more than twice the price of a regular V8 sports coupe. This will be a bit more attainable.

Yeah that's what I kinda thought you meant. Its just out of range for the average person but a true enthusiast will do whatever necessary to purchase one :)

You're right, let's base it all off one story of an 18 year old that has more money than brains? Good idea, why didn't I think of that........

On average, people with money are a better driver then people with less money.

Could you seriously bring up some facts on that? I see PLENTY of expensive cars......totaled. I just can't fathom how wealth has any relation to skill.

I was thinking that 'low income' usually means more 'disposible' cars so being careful is not as important as buying an expensive toy and not wanting to wreck it.

How can one honestly talk about the horsepower of 580, when they don't talk about the 4200lbs it has to move??

The 4 door CTS-V luxury sedan weighs 4222 according to Edmunds. Absolutely pathetic.

I was also thinking about that too but then I think about the bugatti video going into the lake or the 911 car with the ferrari driver driving on the train tracks or the many street racing vids of expensive cars. Still, in4coldhardfacts!

CTS-V is one of the fastest cars in the world, just a reminder.

Because then everyone will complain even more:?:

2nd fastest sedan, but still one of the fastest production cars in the world.

Would be even faster with less weight . But that weight is respectable for a 4 door luxury sedan. A 2 door sports coupe should not be ANYWHERE near that, especially if it's race ready

Says who exactly? I know lots of 2 door sports coupes that come in around 2 tons.
Is it ideal? No, it's not. Would it nice if it was lighter? Sure.

If only Government Motors made such a car? Lets just dream something up real quick...

Has to be light, so lots of carbon fiber and aluminum, throw in a dash of magnesium for some parts of the chassis structure. Smaller = lighter, so cut out a foot or so. Gunna need a lower center of gravity, so whamo, redesign the chassis. Powertrain is good, but maybe it needs a bit more power.
So what we want to build is an aluminum and magnesium space frame, wrapped in light weight materials, namely carbon fiber, powered by a supercharged 6.2 liter engine, massive tires and brakes, advanced MRC suspension, and lets add a decade or so worth of racing engineering and know-how learned from running in an International racing series. Sounds expensive....very expensive, so it will need the full luxury package: leather dash, navi, auto climate, heated seats, etc etc...Man, if they could just put that together, that would be the greatest thing ever...really would.

Camaro ZL1 benchmarks the GT500. Again, Camaro does not have to be, and should not be, everything to everyone.
It is heavy
It lacks features
It is hard for old people to look out of
It has big wheels old people hate
It has a cartoonish design
It will be owned by people that have a lot of money
It will be faster than 95% of the LT1's on this site

yeah i see i'm still liked on this forum.. guess what. i got that brand new engine in the car. i drove it like a pussy and kept it under 3k on each shift and never saw 80+ mph and i got 568 miles out of it. i've got a knock and its going back to the dealer tomorrow morning. i've spoken to the engineers at ford. there is a problem with the engine not me.

i spoke with chris at evolution performance and his 5.0 got 500 miles and blew up. now he built his up and its running 8's on stock block without problems.. I'm looking into having my built by them since there is 9 mustangs around my town that run great and have no problems.

yeah i do have money for my age. yeah no one is perfect and hasnt ****ed up. so what i put to much boost through my 88 fox body and blew the piston rings out.. you live and learn.

If any of you say you havent topped your car out or beat the balls off it you're lieing. so hop off my dick.

Oh and I was watching G4TV's attack of the show and they mentioned this car and had a price tag of $50,000. If that is the price then DAMN - that is frigin awesome! I was fully expecting 60K to 70K. Well, it shall be interesting to see what the final MSRP will be

BigAls87Z28
09-14-2011, 08:24 AM
It will be under the CTS-V's price tag for obvious reasons, but also not as much as a Z06, or even a fully loaded Grand Sport.
It will be priced like the GT500, since that is the one and only target for this car.

I like it....even though it will be heavy. I fear the price gouging by the dealers but that's to be expected. At around 50k, it will be a great car with a good amount of people doing simple mods and making some very serious power. If the price creeps to 60-70K, then I would much rather have a new or one year old Z06.

I think critics need to drive the car and make their own impressions. Everyone else is just bench racing.
