Truck Tires

just wondering if anyone has any insight or experince with the following tires, long story short, i bought my silverado, checked the tires and saw they were new, now that im moving down south i checked em again and realized that they were just 4ply tires on a 2500hd truck(6700 lbs with me and full tank) that suppose to have atleast a 8 ply, too late to go after the dealer. they tires im looking at are:
General Grabber AT2, General Grabber HTS, Nitto Terra Grappler AT, Firestone Transforce AT, Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10.

all the tires are gonna be 265/75/R16, the stockers are 245s and way too small for the truck. looking just for life, any issues with the tires and were they worth the money? thanks guys

Honestly, I would avoid the Generals. The grabber AT2s look good pricewise next to the BFG ATs, but the BFGs are a much better tire that should get you 60-80k miles without a problem as long as you rotate regularly.

You might also want to consider looking at some of Cooper / Mastercraft's offerings - they have several nice AT and Hybrid tires at a good price that perform well. My brother has the Mastercraft Courser AT2s and I have the Courser CTs and we are both really pleased with them.

BFG/Goodyear/Michelin are out of budget, i put the AT2s on my gfs jeep, she loves them, says it hasnt stopped that well in the rain ever(had the wrangler GS-As on it before) if were still here in the winter(attempting to move to SC) ill see how they do in the snow, i got people who swear by generals, just trying to see the con of them, among the others

I'm on my second set of Transforce (265/75/16) on my 2500 Dodge Ram with the CTD. So the application is almost identical. First set was a set of AT's that went 50,000. This time I went with HT's (trying to get every last MPG and extend tire life) because I don't really go off road except for the occasional construction site and my truck is 4x4 so if its bad out I just click it in 4wheel high. Both sets Load Range E, pressures checked every month and rotated every 5,000 miles. They have been a very good tire and are at a good price point. The wear has been nice and even, no feathering, chopping or other abnormalities. Road noise is almost none with the HT's and was minimal with the AT's. And when I bought my truck is had the predecessor to the Transforce line, which was the Steeltex and those tire wore like their name implied. So I've been very happy with the Firestone Steeltex/Transforce line in my application.

My current set I paid $650 (locally) for the tires, mounting, balancing, stems, disposal etc. which was the best I could find by good margin, even through on line outlets once you figure in the total cost. Plus I'd rather put my money in the local guy's pocket than some far off distant on line company.

yea i remember the steeltex(including installing them) im gonna go through my old employer so i aint gotta worry bout install and disposal(since ill being doing both), i was leaning toward the Firestone/Hankook tires. gonna come down to price

ive got the general grabber AT2's on my blazer.... awesome tire, ive got about 7k miles on them and no wear showing at all... annnnd they were an absolute beast last winter and ive off roaded/mudded numerous times in **** i shouldnt have gone in lol

the BFG Long Trail? were pretty good, i had them on my dodge. the only thing is they are not so good when it comes to fuel economy or ride quaility in a 3/4 ton truck. however they were great in the snow. i buddy of mine went from BFG all terrians on his GMC 1500 to a General tire but it was a all-season and he gained almost 2 MPG.

you may not gain 2 mpg but it may help your ride quaility a little, not so much in the front.....in the rear

My buddy has the hankook dynapro MT's on his truck, more aggressive than you probably want but they have lasted great, about 30k on the tires and roughly half tread. Going by his experience id trust hankook tires in general

Also my friends dad and another friend have the transforce's on their trucks (one a 2500 HD the other an F250) They have at least 70k with heavy towing on them and they both love them, good traction and very quiet on the road

I have a set of General Grabber AT2s on my F150, C load rating, and they are a great tire especially for the money. I know another guy that runs them on his stock F250 4x4 work truck (D load rating) and they've done good for him as well.

I'm not sure how long it's been since you've bought the truck, but if you just call the dealer, and tell them they put the wrong tires on the truck, they might want to do something for you. Just say something like, "I just wanted to let you know, you put unsafe tires on this truck. I'm going to replace them myself, but you could have gotten in serious trouble if these tires failed earlier on."

My dad has 265/75/R16 Coopers on his 3/4 ton Suburban and loves them. He used to have S/TTs but now he has a tamer version (less aggressive than the regular S/T)

en BFGs are nice, but i was never a fan of the Long Trail, every set we mounted and sold had balancing or chunking issues

i doubt if ill need MTs as this thing is just gonna be my DD, i was gonna lift it, but im gonna keep it stock for now

got the truck in January after my Z24 couldnt make it back up my hill from the xmas blizzard(not a happy guy at 4am in the morning, the scale/transfer station didnt open that day) i love the cooper ATRs, never used 4wd this past winter

i have the Firestone Transforce AT an they are the best that I've had, followed by coopers. Over the years I've tried GY, BFG general and coopers. The Firestones are very good in the snow and after 30K are showing almost no wear. I run the firrestones at 60PSI when not towng, help te ride a bot @75PSI you feels every joint in the road.

i have the Michelin MTX i think, definitly pricey but totally worth every cent imo.

michelin MTX are nice but way outta my price range. i got moving truck booked now, so ill tow her jeep behind that but when the time comes, im going with the General HTS.

A buddy runs the Hankooks on Dodge pickup. He tows two Jeeps at a time with it on a gooseneck and absolutely loves those tires. Same as stated above: They wear good and worked well and can be had in the proper load range.
