Bernalillo County, New Mexico sheriffs reportedly stopped Unser on Thursday for driving over 100 miles per hour in his Suburban

I know they're a famous racing family but...tuning a Suburban to remove the top speed limiter? :?:

Based on speed rating of tires IIRC.

And

Dear ********:

Stop calling "street racing" "drag racing".

my old Denali did over 100...

edit: apparently the 99-00 Denalis and Escalades had a higher speed limiter than the basic Tahoes and Yukons, matched with a higher 120mph speedo.

Unless you have HP tuners, but I don't know anything about that.

Ya, could be tuned. My dad's 96 was limited to 100 and would back you down to 97 on the speedo. I think the '11 gmc gmi had went over 100 stock.

I immediately thought about you when I read this story on Jalopnik (http://jalopnik.com/5845138/indy-500-champ-al-unser-jr-caught-drag-racing-at-3-am) a few days ago. One of the first comments was from someone who was furious with the author for this very reason.

Though drag racing got it's name from street racing. The drag being a main street. I guess they aren't wrong after all, eh?

That is true, but it today's context I think the two are different. Organized drag racing does not need any more bad PR in any way.

Thought the same thing when I saw the article yesterday. I know my Vue is limited to 99, but the Red Line model has higher speed rated tires and can go up near 120. I wouldn't be surprised if his truck had a tune anyway.

Limiter on my Suburban was 98 MPH stock. I bumped it up to 135 MPH when I tuned it.
