Will be driving the 2012 Buick Verano over the next two days.
Any questions, comments, concerns, or anything else you would like answered about the car or anything related to it?
Quick overview: Verano is Buick's entry level car that slots below the Regal. Verano is more like a mini-Lacrosse. It will be standard with Buick's Intellilink Infotainment system.
Built on the same platform as the Chevy Cruze and Volt, it shares a lot of its interior design from the Opel Astra.
Verano comes standard with a 2.4 liter 4cyl instead of the 1.8 or 1.4T engine found in the Cruze. There will be a turbocharged 2.0 engine later in the year, mated to an optional 6spd manual trans.

That's why it's there. So you notice.
What are all the controls on the steering wheel?
Also, whats the button between the seats in the center console area below the shifter? Heat warmer?

Left side is cruise control buttons, right side are the radio controls buttons.
Button in the center near the shifter is the electronic parking brake.

For a base price of just $23,470 (including destination charge), passengers inside the Verano are treated to standard leatherette/fabric seating surfaces, cloth-wrapped A-pillars, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sliding center armrest, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth, remote engine start and full power accessories. A high-resolution seven-inch LED backlit touchscreen with GM's Intellilink technology (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/19/intellilink-buick-gmc/) (complete with voice control, integrated Pandora Internet radio and Stitcher application) is also standard on entry-level models.
Pretty extensive standard features list.

Fuel economy just isn't there. I think that will stop it from being relevant. At that price point, people can just upsize.

21/31 for the 2.4. Might be better with the turbo.

and IIRC they changed the EPA estimates a few years ago. A handful of cars i looked up are now lower after the changes. I'm sure with a relaxed driver they could see 23-24 city in it easily

I love that the general will give this car a 6-speed. I like the Cruze exterior compared to this but it's an attractive car. This car gets my approval but almost any GM vehicle gets my approval!

To answer the question, at a race track.
We were in NY/CT for the whole drive. Still not legal, but no ****s were given.

I saw a white one two days ago. Car looks awesome, and no joke is up at the top of my list now (for when my Malibu gives up the ghost). I am very impressed.
How would you compare it to the upcoming Malibu?
BigAls87Z28
10-27-2011, 12:28 PM
Malibu is a much bigger car, but features will be very similar with a top level Verano having higher quality leather. If you want to give up a little interior space (Verano's trunk is pretty big) Verano is a perfect car for people wanting true luxury withput going with a larger and more expensive car.

I kinda wish I was still at the Buick dealership to give one of these things a test drive...I never really got excited about Buick's lineup aside from the Regal GS...and now this car...they could potentially soak up a lot of the small car market with the Verano.
BigAls87Z28

I think they priced the car very well, and the standard features with Verano makes it a great buy in this segment. Intellilink is actually very good, much better than I thought. No lagging like with MyFord.

I bet the verano can't ford the river without losing all its oxen... just saying...

You'd be surprised. The engineers got together with the makers of Oregon Trail to come up with a design that would in fact be able to ford the river just in case that scenario came up.

So, what you are saying, is that I cannot blame GM for when the car doesn't run well after attempting to ford a river and losing ALL of my oxen?
Does this cover getting influenza, or snake bites?

Edit
How does the power feel compared to your bu?
BigAls87Z28
10-30-2011, 02:53 PM
More torque keeps the car moving pretty well. This also has the 2nd generation 6spd autos, so the shifts are a lot nicer and crisper. A lot of the first gen ones could do a little gear-hunt sometimes, but this seems to be fixed now.
