looking for some info

my camaro is registered in ny, and i will be switching over to nj.

i plan on getting the car insured with Grundy, as it is currently with a standard insurance company.

question is..in the state of nj, do i need to have insurance BEFORE i go to nj dmv to get it registered and get new plates, etc? if so, does the dmv need proof of insurance or can their systems verify that? if not...can i just go in with the title, pay my fees, and switch the plates...then get insurance after the registration process is complete?

looking for some nj dmv afficianados here...i want to make sure thats i only make one trip to the hellhole that is the dmv.

thanx.

Need insurance before you can register it or get plates here. Also, before you can cancel the insurance most companies make you turn in the plates. Bring proof of insurance with you; even it is just a printed copy off the computer.

They have busted my balls many times about it.

I believe it is state law regarding turning in plates or proof of new coverage before you can cancel your coverage. I don't think they are busting your balls for fun.

You will need proof of insurance to register the car. Check the mvc website for details

Yes you need insurance 1st. You really only need the policy number for the form you have to fill out from what I remember.
