I have an 00 Formula with a cam, LT's ,catted y-pipe, and a loudmouth 1 catback. My inspection is coming up soon and I'm wondering if anyone has had problems passing with a loud exhaust since they've change the test? I've heard they basically just look for a check engine light on obd2 cars and thats all anyone know if its true?

They wanted to do a visual check for cats in my 99 but the supervisor told them it was too quiet not to be stock. If its loud they'll check but if you have cats nbd..

^^^ yea technically its illegal to move them from the stock location. Depending on how dumb the inspection person is, you should be able to get away with it without them noticing.

Dead presidents usually help the persuading if they get on your case.

Yeah because all inspection stations have lifts, diagrams of stock location and time to harass a single car for cats in the wrong location. Have you been to an inspection station recently? Take a look at the workers..

Really? Bribe the inspection guy?

at bakers basin they have web cams in the floor and the guy watches the monitor as they drive it by.

I'd think they could fail you for noise as it comes under the guise of pollution. But someone here went through with a loud car right after the change and went through.

I think you will get by.

Maybe bring this with you:

And show them if you get any grief. But seeing as they shouldn't be revving it you may be OK.

And LOL at "bribe the inspection guy". That's terrible advice.

anyway you should be fine either way i dont think the LMII is as loud as the LM but still mine is pretty loud and never had a problem

I got my 98 Z28 w/ SLP Loudmouth exhaust inspected back in July at the Kilmer inspection station and it passed without any hassle. Granted I haven't messed with the cat converters, but it's still loud. I've failed in past years for the loudness, but I passed for the first time this year at a public inspection station since they did away with the visual inspection and only do the smog test. It's awesome because now I don't have to shell out more money to get it privately inspected anymore.

I agree with the other person about them revving the engine. I kind of hate when inspection workers do that.

the loudness law changes from township to township. as far as i have seen there is no max state decibel level for exhaust noise. therefore you should never fail for loud exhaust

.I had a similar issue years ago with my Banks system in my 82. State facility gave me trouble even with the paperwork.
