I am looking for an answer non of my searches really result in answer that is realiable.

I got a speeding ticket, not arguing if I did/didn't, should/shouldn't have recieved the ticket. I am a NY resident, the ticket was issued in NJ. I just want to know how does the points system work being out of state and will they be transfered to my license. I know ny and nj both use MVC but with points be added to my license ?

If you have a definite answer please, I would like to know.

New Jersey MVC will asses points for moving violations in at least PA and NY, I'm not sure if other nearby states are part of it. I would believe it is the same for NY with a moving violation in either state. Check out NY's MVC site, it will certainly list the answer.

"Except for Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS driver record if you commit an out-of-state traffic violation. Points can appear on your NYS driver record if you commit a traffic violation in Ontario or Quebec."

It depends on the moving violation I believe. A regular speeding ticket doesn't transfer over to PA(at least it didn't a few years ago). Careless, reckless and DIU do though(or something like that).

When I was stationed in Virginia I still had my NJ licsense and every moving violation ticket I recieved in VA the points showed up on my NJ license..

Thats because in NJ, points transfer from Virginia.

Yep, lol only States not included are Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon and Wisconsin. So if you get caught in the other 44 states.... good luck.... lol

Did you ever get followed home by a Mahwah cop and yelled at by your father in your driveway?

I got pulled over by a Mahwah cop this weekend and he swore up and down that it was me that he did that to. Actually, he also told me to stop driving through Mahwah.

Anyways, I mirror what JW said. I get most of my speeding tickets in NJ and have no points on my license now. I just checked my abstract last month. You're fine. It's one of the perks of living near the border.

And of course I've had speeding tickets in only 3 states - NJ, DE and VA
