Long story short:
GM sold Saab off to Spyker and the Sweedish govt, gave them three vehicles that GM paid for full development.
That went well for about 10 mins, and then Spyker needed more help, so they tried to off-load Saab onto the Chinese. After 4-5 different Chinese and even Russian investors and GM couldn't reach an agreement, Saab was left in the open.
Oh well, not a tear will be shed here.

Jesus.
Apparently SAAB fans are just as rabid as AMC guys.
When they killed Pontiac a lot of people were pissed but not like this.
My buddy dumped his 2000 Z28 for a 9-3 Aero and says it was one of the worst decisions he's ever made.

Saab Automobile filed for bankruptcy, bringing the Swedish carmaker to the brink of shutting for good after failing to find investors to rescue the 74-year-old company.
Saab submitted its application today at Vaenersborg District Court. The carmaker has received expressions of interest to buy parts of the company, and the filing is “not necessarily the end,” Victor Muller, chief executive officer of parent company Swedish Automobile NV, told reporters at Saab headquarters in the southwestern town of Trollhaettan.
Saab, which General Motors Co. (GM) sold to Swedish Automobile in February 2010, won protection from creditors in September and has
No way. Really? Troll Hatin'? That's awesome and completely appropriate.

You have NO idea! I know a guy who is a die hard Saab guy. Not so much in later years when GM owned them. He even owns a Saab Sonett! He puts every AMC nut I've ever met to shame!

I heard it was to free up room and money for Pontiac's return!

I am a big fan of Saab. Our family bought an 03 and it is still running in great shape in the hands of my cousin. We gave it to her a year and a half ago with over 110k on the clock. I would love to get my hands on a used Saab but unfortunately, I don't have the money, or would have the patience to source parts. Having owned a Saturn, I know how big of a pain it can be to source parts when something breaks.
I think the auto world lost a big player today. :(

Ahhh...no jobs. The 9-4x was built in Mexico along with the Caddy SRX, and the 9-5 was built across the pond.
I love when they say they will never buy GM again, when by the looks of it, never have.

I was thinking the same thing. They probably did not set out to buy a GM car- they set out to buy a SAAB and got a GM car by default.

An 03? 110k miles? Is that surprising? People have such low expectations with vehicles, how do any qualify as bad? Just about all of my vehicles are at or over 200k, most are over 20 years old and neglected by previous owners. It always bothers me when people consider cars over 50k as old.

That's great, but how many of those old cars have electric luxuries and modern safety equipment that could go wrong as well? Also, how many of those cars did their first 110k with outer tie-rods and a neutral safety switch as their only repairs? It's a good statistic man, anyway you slice it. Any car can last 200k, but not every car can do it with minimal repairs. It's a solid car. But 100k is still alot of miles. My family is not easy on their cars, so 100k trouble-free miles is a victory in my book.

A drop in the bucket in my opinion. I don't know which I despise more, mercedes, bmw, or saab.
