Sweet, how did you get tickets? My brother splits a Flyers season ticket with someone, he has 3 separate Phillies 17 game packages and ended up with no tickets to the Winter Classic! Hopefully the weather is cold enough to keep the ice in good shape.

That was pretty cool to watch some of the older guys get out there. My brother did end up getting the ticket to today's game, the Classic and I think their is a game Friday as well. He got them for the season ticketholder price so it wasn't that bad at all.

The alumni game was fun to watch...it was awesome to see the old greats from both teams out there playing....definitely awesome.

It sucks I'm working tomorrow....I'll DVR the game.

I went to the past two winter classics, Boston and then Pittsburgh. Both were fun, but the novelty wore off for me. It's always freezing cold and you can't see the puck unless you are in the nosebleed seats with binoculars.

If the devils were playing, I would consider going though so I hope you have fun watching your team.

What a great game. It sucks the scumbag Rangers scored two cheese goals but that's the way it goes. Awesome game.

Now back to my fantasy hockey domination.

Flyers got sloppy once again and it cost them the game. The refs tried to bail them out, but they couldn't even take advantage of that. It was a good game and probably one of the more "normal" games compared to the other einter classics considering it was outside. Last year the rain slowed it down and in Boston the ice was slow. In Buffalo the snow slowed it down, but I guess that's the interesting part of playing the game outside.

The refs called a fair game. I thought the camera angle was horrible. For the fans sake they need to have clear boards and digitizedl the sponsors like the rangers do behind the net at msg.

the flyers also do digitized advertising, when they play indoors. you know the other 81 games during the season plus playoffs lol.

The refs called a fair game.

No they didn't  They tried handing the Flyers the 3rd goal so the game would go into OT...and yes I'm a die hard Flyers fan saying this. I'm really disappointed in the NHL for doing that.

WayFast84
01-03-2012, 10:12 PM
Are you serious? The call for a penalty shot is clear cut. You also can't hold a players stick(when a ranger went around a flyer center ice for the empty netter). I said it before, the flyers did nothing by signing a 31 year old goalie for 9 years. Goaltending won the game for the rangers(like it always has) and lost it for the flyers.

Any other "bad" calls I missed?

Frosty
01-04-2012, 05:25 AM
I've seen the Callahan/Timonen scenario a hundred times and it's RARELY called for hooking and diving...especially in that situation. I guarantee you had that been a regular run of the mill game it would have been a hooking call only.

It was clear cut that the puck was covered up by a glove? I watched the video a bunch of times and didn't see any clear cut evidence that he clearly put his glove over the puck.

How about the blatant hook on Gaborik on the break away...again that's been called for the last 3+ years but was let go. He clearly had his stick in Gaborik's midsection.

Remember, I'm a die hard Flyers fan...it kills me to even side with the douche bag Rangers...but it was pretty obvious what the NHL was trying to do.

As far as signing Bryz...you do realize Bob was in net right?

WayFast84
01-04-2012, 08:59 AM
You can't cover the puck up like that in an oh **** situation, I've been playing for years and have even been called for it and had to watch my goalie get absolutely wrecked because of it.

Gaborik also got the shot off pretty cleanly.

Bob was in net? I had no idea captain obvious. Obviously Bob is a back up to your newly acquired supershakey goalie and they started bob because bryz is a mental case and has no confidence. Oh well have fun with his cap hit for 9 years!!

Frosty
01-04-2012, 09:25 AM
You're not the only one that played the sport....I know the rules dude. I just didn't see him actually cover the puck with his glove....maybe I missed it.

Gaborik had to kick the puck to get a shot off. ;)

I like the Bryz signing...I just don't like the 9yrs...it's ridiculous but that seems to be the theme in the leauge now to circumvent the cap. Have fun having a big ass contract with Mr. Playoff Choke Artist in Kovalsuck. ;) He's not a player you can build a team around.

BTW, for what it's worth Bob would be a starter on a lot of teams in the league...so yeah....

band77one
01-04-2012, 03:26 PM
for what its worth the entire team played like **** the entire third period. as we flyers fans have seen all season long, they are prone to just stop covering their men, start turning pucks over and suddenly have the inability to win any board battles. they need to figure it out or its going to be a first round ousting in the playoffs.

band77one
01-04-2012, 03:27 PM
and the refs definately did not call a fair game when simmonds was pushed headfirst into the boards, and giroux got punched in the head because he won a battle along the boards. those are just two of the most blatant plays that stick out for me not being called. i didnt watch on tv so i didnt get tons of angles and replays of other penalties/plays.

"There is no acceptable explanation or excuse for commentary challenging the integrity of the League, its officials or its broadcast partners," said Colin Campbell, the NHL vice president of hockey operations. "People can disagree with calls by officials on the ice, but even in instances of the utmost frustration there is no justification for speaking as inappropriately and irresponsibly as Mr. Tortorella did."

1) Van Reimsdyke plowed mcDunnough into the rangers net knocking the net off the magnets and McDunnough gets called for delay of game?

2) Gaborik is on a break away and he gets hooked the last 20 feet to the slot (stick was waist level across his hands) any other game, any other time thats a hooking call in todays pussified NHL

3) Callihan gets tripped and they call a dive. You cant be tripped and dive, pick one, it is impossible to be both. Then dont change your call from diving to holding the stick.

4) Was the puck ever covered in the crease?

I didnt see the commentary of the game until I got home, I couldnt understand it when I was there but after seeing it on TV I could better understand his remarks, be honest, if you were John Tortorella, what would you think?

I'm just saying.

WayFast84

How many times did the nets come off the morrings? Many.

I would be pissed about the hook. The refs may have missed some calls for both sides but I can't say that they called it in phillies favor..

I wish I could see the game again because it seems like I'm missing stuff here which is possible since I watched it on 3 hours of sleep.

i went to a flyer-ranger playoff game in 86 or 87. Wore my blue jersey. bad call. freaking animals. Had to hide the jersey and move to another part of the rat hole spectrum. so this ain't new. I always thought it was the 'broad street bully' mentality. drunks thought it applied to them too.

some of the comments in the yt thread are great. more meatheads.

Just to play Devil's Advocate he was hooked and did dive...however refs rarely call both though it's happening more.
