Granted I work in Philly, a ******** city that needs to be nuked so it might not be a fair comparison but I've had 6 5thgens in the last 2 weeks that have had their wheels and tires stolen....just flat out taken and the cars left on blocks. Apparently they're a hot ticket right now...just watch your cars or get some wheel locks.

Put on salad shooters/93-95 firebird rims for your 5th gens and no one would ever want to touch them.
How much does a set of 5th gen wheels cost any how?

For the SS and RS wheels/tires/sensors it's around $4500-4800.
The base ones obviously cheaper.

Plus you can dismount the tires to mount on your 'dubs.

You could also look into a set of TAKE-OFFS from SLP (20"SS Wheels) for $400.00 for ALL four with center caps. My son bought a set of these last summer.

Will this swap right over? Will I have to grind brakes?
Thanks for the heads up I'm in Northeast on occasion.

Their 5x120mm i do believe...same bolt pattern as my wifes equinox which i'd love to put a set on..plus tpms should be the same being their gm...i might have to go to philly..:kneeslap:
all seriousness, will those steelies from the base models work on the ss's? if so it could be a valid alternative, although they steelies are 18"s.

i don't think they will clear the ss brakes. they are quite large.
I think those cars look great with those base 18s.

I dont get it man....
1. who would want to put a set of stock rims on their car?
2. if you had your stock 5th gen wheels stole, for the $$$ you'll get to replace the stockers and tires, you could get a really nice set of after markets and pocket some cash for mods...........thats what their doing ;) lol
Frosty
01-24-2012, 12:31 PM
Not everyone cares about that stuff, a majority of my customers couldn't care less about modding it, making it faster, changing the look etc.

fair enough about the mods, but its not like those are really nice rims or anything. Why wouldnt you want to put different rims on and possibly pocket some cash as well?
Hell even if you really like the stock rims, you can buy identical after market ones and pocket a nice hunk of change.

Again, a majority of people don't know or don't care. You have to realize the general public isn't like us, they're not constantly looking to change their cars....most just drive it and that's it.

Dont those wheels come with locks?? Wouldnt car alarms go off when they jack up the cars or break the wheel locks and lugs off?
I would also bet that alot of the people who buy a new SS camaro are online looking up stuff about there cars and have some knowledge of there cars. All most all 5th gen owners I pass when I am driving my T/A give me a wave or rev up.. They know what I am driving even if my car is 10 yrs old so they must know something about there cars as well!!
Frosty
01-24-2012, 03:55 PM
No wheel locks and no alarm.
It's also not just SS wheels that are getting stolen...it's also the RS packages but thanks for reading. So you're taking a few SS's drivers that wave to you and trying to say everyone that buys one knows their car? Please just stop posting. I'm trying to pass along some info to current 5thgen owners.
The "average" Camaro owner(those that aren't on message boards) don't give a **** about upgrading the car. Do you think some 20-something chick that bought a V6 RS car cares about making it faster or upgrading rims? That's the reason they added the RS package to their V6(for the wheels and a few other things)...but what do I know? I'll tell all of my customers they're bad Camaro owners or something
Most of the cars I've seen have this issue or even the Camaro owners in general are all V6 cars, some with the RS package, some just plain 'ol V6's. Very few SS' here...but again I'll just be quiet because a few SS owners waved at you.

wheel locks do not stop criminals. they only stop owners. throw them away.
Frosty
01-24-2012, 04:03 PM
Eh, they do make it harder to steal some wheels but as the saying goes if someone wants it they're going to get it....especially around here.
For some reason I had 2 customers with Malibu's have the same problem too...a f'in Malibu lol /facepalm

i've chiseled enough of them off in my life. they are useless.
Frosty
01-24-2012, 04:11 PM
True but if it makes them work to get the wheels off or forces them to make more noise....I mean ish never buy them but that's just me.

they you still have either no wheels or damaged wheels. no thanks.
Frosty

True true but at least with damaged wheels it won't be looking ghetto fabulous sitting on blocks lol

Great of you to pass on the warning to everyone else, Frosty. I'm sure a lot of the 5th Gen owners down in that region appreciate the heads up.
And to those wondering why anyone would want stock rims, well, not everyone wants to go aftermarket or wants to make their car look like it is less "modded" and more factory.
Or, just pull the bully move and steal their wheels & sell them back to them!
...Eh, I guess people damage their wheels and want to replace them, too. Or want spare sets for winter/whatever.

.
So a new Camaro doesnt come with a car alarm? Didnt realize that..
Few?? I pass about 15-20 new Camaros every day when I drive.. About half I see on the streets are V8's. Most of the new camaro drives do acknowledge me when I am in either the T/A or My Wifes Firehawk. To me that tells me that they know a LITTLE about there car and its history since there hasnt been a new Firebird for 10 yrs now! You think they know nothing about them and that is probably true from your experience but from my experience this is what I have seen. I dont know why that would make you angry or start talking crap on me but for some reason it did. Maybe its because your part of that area that you said needs to be nuked or what not? Who knows. If it makes you upset that camaro owners are different were I live then were you live then so be it. Move!

OK. Awesome. My last post was deleted so I'll just leave it at that. I'm sure you see over 100 new Camaro's a week
Anyway, to the 5thgen people, people that actually had some ****ing usefulness to this thread, just keep an eye out.
Thanks.

What you are posting is a great thing believe me it is.. I just dont get why you always fight with what I say? It doesnt make sense. Your opinion on camaro owners differs from mine but yet I am wrong. Why is that?
As far as seeing 15-20 5th gen camaros a day I usually drive around 3000-4000 miles a month.. Thats my job.. I am running all over the Delaware Valley. I service machines in pretty much every hospital in South NJ, Delaware, and Philly. I see alot of Camaros everyday especially in South Jersey. I offten take a count on how many I see a day. Its somthing to do since some days I spend 4-6 hrs driving. I count how many 5th gens I see vrs how many New mustangs.

Let it go dude, you have to contradict anything and everything I say. I'm going by what I've seen, in a dealership with all kind of people from different walks of life. I made a comment that the average owner doesn't give a **** about taking insurance $$ and buying aftermarket rims, got it? Good...now move on.
