MODS:

Mine came with whats in my sig.. those are probably the most common and simple.. which you already have lol

PROBLEMS SO FAR:

-power steering was whining when i got mine...
-water pump went on my at like 75k maybe...
-starter went at about 100k. (im at 105k)...

-hydraulics in the clutch went at about 80-85k and was upgraded to LS7

eveyrthing else was maintenance.

believe it or not the car doesnt really sit that high, in all the pics it looks like it does though, although one of the first things i do will be to lower it !

Depending on how you drive it certain things you will want to change.

If you drive it hard a pcv oil catch can, good brakes, good tires and upgraded clutch master cylinder.

It's an auto my dude

@OP, get a Stall + Long tubes + Suspension
I'm a fan of suspension

Common problems from my two F-bods

+ 1 Water Pump
+ 1 Alternator (maybe working on two at the moment)
+ 1 Power steering pump noises...
+ 1 Clutch master (don't have to worry about it)

I like it. How's the maintenance records? A fuel filter, pcv and plugs and wires might make a nice difference in how she runs. As far as mods generally lids are the first upgrade, throttle bodies are cheap as well, lcas and phb are a good start towards suspension.

i got it in williamstown, paid $7500. I don't have the records yet the guy is seeing what he has. he's in the process of moving and all that so im sure everythings a mess. but the car was well taken care off, theres 2 small dings, one on each 1/4 but im other than that no complaints.

Good luck, love the color combo with the tan interior and the chrome wheels. Just a piece of advice, lowered cars look great, but every speed bump or dip in the road will make you cringe!

Nice looking car man!

Heres the deal on what to do to it.....

-put a stall in it (this will eliminate that "auto sad face", trust me)

-3:73 gears

The autos dont put near as hard as a beating on the rears so you should be good. That combo right here with an ok driver and some decent tires will give you a low 12 sec daily driver.

band77one
01-24-2012, 09:08 AM
every speed bump already makes me cringe LOL they dont repaired around here until they seem to be at least 6 inches deep. and what gears do the ss cars come with stock ?

98F-1camaro
01-24-2012, 09:24 AM
I could be wrong but I dont think they had specific gears. The autos came with either a 2:78 I think it was or the optional 3:23's You can check the sticker on the door to see if it came with the optional 3:23's (GU5 option code)

Anti_Rice_Guy
01-24-2012, 09:31 AM
Auto LS1 cars came with 2:73 or 3:23s. Check the RPO codes for GU5 like mentioned above.

With the lack of a crazy overdrive like the 6 spds...you don't really want much higher number gears than 3.23s. I tach just over 2k at 65-70. Anything else would get pretty loud, annoying, and start to really hurt mileage.

band77one
01-24-2012, 10:53 AM
i was thinkin about putting 3.73's on there nothin crazy since im not going to go too wild with the car.

JL8Jeff
01-24-2012, 03:28 PM
With the automatic, a ported throttle body actually makes a big difference in the way it drives. The stock TB has a bit of a lag or hesitation before it kicks in. A ported TB will eliminate that little lag which makes it a lot better to drive and it might add around 5 hp.

how do stock injectors go with ls6 manifold, TB, and cold air kit, long tubes and catback?

JL8Jeff
01-24-2012, 05:33 PM
Do you still have the EGR functioning right now? If so, the LS6 manifold does not have EGR provision so you would need to block off the EGR and tune it out. Regardless of the EGR, you might need a retune due to the added airflow but it should run.

band77one
01-24-2012, 07:38 PM
will removing the egr system make it fail emissions ? what are the plus sides for taking the system out in favor of the ls6 manifold over other manifolds ?

WiMiMc
01-25-2012, 06:40 AM
It cleans up the engine bay and makes it look nicer.

But i took the EGR & AIR out of my car, along with the fuses and no codes ever popped up. It went through inspection fine. I think if the engine is running well you shouldn't have a problem.

My 02 SS SLP has 3.42 gears and is an auto.

You are either wrong about the gears, or someone switched them before you owned the car.

98F-1camaro
01-25-2012, 07:30 AM
Wrong!

I thought he was right. I know all the LS1 f-body's came with 3:42's if they were manuals. Maybe some of the early LT1's had different ones? I know both my 95 LT1's had 3:42's...

EDIT: the 93 LT1 did not have th option of 3:42's. only the 2:73's and 3:23's were avail.

Good call. I remember looking through the slp catalog for the options you could order and there was an optional dif on there if I recall correctly. I suppose that could have had those gears than.

So i think i will switch to the loudmouth catback, keep the edelbrock shorties (for now), keep the volant cold air kit, and ill add an intake manifold and throttle body+a tune, stock injectors should be fine right ?

98F-1camaro
01-25-2012, 02:47 PM
yes, you'll be fine with the stockers with that setup. If your gonna get an intake manifold, don't waste your money on FAST. Too expensive and certainly not worth it with only those mods. Throw an LS6 intake on it and your good to go.

If you have 2.73 gears, they have to go first. Even before a cat back and lid IMO.

Just look into a GM Parts book and you'll find there is no part number for a speedometer gear for automatics with 3:42 gears.

probably because they use speed sensors and are set in the PCM

Good luck with your car......looks real good. You will love the ls1, they run great stock and respond really well to even modest mods. Have had mine for 6 yrs. and still enjoy it. But watch the mod bug ,it gets addicting. And get used to the car and respect the power driving it on the street, red car with a nice sound to it can attract unwanted attention. (unless your an old gray-haired guy).

Nice car I agree with what everyone has said. Keep the cat back you have. An lm1 is just noise. This coming from a guy with long tubes no cats true duals dumped before the axle lol. I love my ws6 I've owned it for almost 8 years. You say sad face auto I wish mine was auto so tired of breaking 10 bolts lol. As far as normal maintenance problems I've had my drivers side window motor go twice. That's about it. Everything else is from me beating it hard lol. If it were me first mod would be a stall.
