For the second year in a row the 24 hours of lemons will be at NJMP. It's April 14-15 but registration ends 2/4. For anyone who doesn't know, it's a 24 hour race requiring 4-6 drivers per car. You can't spend more than $500 including purchase price of the car you run (minus safety items).

http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/pricesandrules.aspx

I wish I had seen a few months ago that it was in NJ because I think it would be a lot of fun. It's short notice now. Has anyone gone or run in one of these?

Wish I knew about this earlier as this would def happen. We have the means and the ability to pull it together.

I would be up for it too. Here's an f-body story that did it in 2008 and got 2nd place:

I think it would be fitting to get a beat third gen and rock it out.

I know of one in Long Branch. Owner probably forgot its there :bertstare:

I am kicking myself for getting rid of my 95 shell though. Ah well, will keep an eye out for a cheap ass bimmer or 4g63

I barely looked and found this:

Thirdgen would be better.

It has a bad clutch and you want to endurance race it on a set budget that the car itself reaches, seems legit

88WS-6

Well I would fix the clutch and not say I did. There is apparently a lot of shady business that goes into this. Read that link if you haven't...

So basically we can show up with bls' car and just tell them we found it on craigslist for $500.

Seems legit.

Safety is key so they check for that the most. They won't try to see what clutch you have, that's for sure.

They immediatly crush a car that seems like it was "too good" and they do stuff like pour aluminum shavings into the engine.

That's true. I still think its a little too late to jump in. Plus its pretty expensive. At least $300 per person for a 5 driver team to register and buy a car, nevermind everything else.

They can buy your car after the race for $500 :bertstare: They can also crush a random car

Call me crazy, but if we don't need to have the car by 2/4, I think it could happen.

If anyone thinks this race is too close, there is a similar race at the same track on June 2nd and 3rd. The ChumpCar World Series:

Who would officially be down for something like this?

Blackbirdws6
01-27-2012, 01:41 PM
Think we just need to plan for it next year and do it right....or horribly wrong.

Pal Performance - Supply the tools/lift etc to get it done.
BLS - All lighting will be handled for superior night time vision. (24 hr race!)
You Get Nothing Vinyl Guy - Wrap the car so it looks half decent
Iron works - BLS buddy to do the roll cage and other welding needs

So does Brandon. Al and Adam manage through it. Kirk and Matt will prob just leave it in third and need a push start.

I ****ING told you to hold onto the V6 car, but noooooooooooooooo...
Find a high mileage 4th gen with a 3800, and it will decimate all with overnight parts from China.

I am down for either one. Maybe we can get two teams going here for either series.

88WS-6

If we wait until next year, then we have to do this right and win this thing by 20 laps. Assuming they have it at NJMP again, we have a little over a year to do this. Judging by the amount of people interested, two teams may be an option.

With over a year to get this done, I think that we would have to use an f-body. Given the $500 value, I'm assuming it would be a thirdgen or a steal for a 2nd or 4th gen. After reading the rules for both races, the 24hrs of Lemons seems much more laid back and fun and basically if you get a great deal on a car, you're good. The ChumpCar series would make running any f-body much harder because of their value system. They also seem a lot more serious and strict about mods.

My point is, I'm only going to build and run a non f-body if its this year. If I am waiting a year, then I'm building one badass f-body. And for the record, I'm way better at driving than I am at building/fabricating/wrenching.

I've got a '93 V6 automatic Camaro that I'd sell for $500 if it was promised to be used in this race. It's been sitting for a while so I'll have to see if it will start. *looks for jump box and starting fluid*

...Given the $500 value, I'm assuming it would be a thirdgen or a steal for a 2nd or 4th gen. ...It would literally have to be a stolen 2nd gen. half solid rollers are more than that. 3rd gen or a clapped out lt1 or v6 car are more likely.

Depends. If you sell enough parts off of a $1500 beatbox you might get lucky.

Yeah I forgot about that. If we can sell stuff off of the car it takes away from the total cost.
