I just sold a car that has good tags until 1/13 and was wondering if I could transfer those tags to my truck which expires in 2 months? They are in different weight ratings so that would most likely be my biggest issue. Looking for someone that has done something similar before.
_Thanks

I didn't read all the fine print. Maybe get a prorated refund?
Edit: looks like there is a time limit on refunds. You would need to renew your registration then sell it within the month to be eligible.

Well it was just re-newed 2 weeks ago so I'll give them call on Monday and see. But I highly doubt NJ will give me any type of refund.

Was it actually a car the plates are registered for? If so, you can't transfer a car plate to a truck. SUV's are often registered as wagons so you can't transfer SUV and truck either.

I tried it from my Regal to my Yukon, and no go. Had to get new and more expensive plates.

yea it was registered as a car so, oh well, NJ just got a $46.50 donation to them.

True. The only time they will transfer between weight ratings is if they are personalized plates. When I went from my Cherokee to the G35 the dealer was able to transfer my personalized plates with no issues.
