How much will it weigh, how much fancy electronic stuff will it come with, can it blend, and whats the price tag looking like?
BigAls87Z28
02-26-2012, 04:38 PM
Weight is 4100lbsish
It has a lot of fancy electronic stuff such as third generation MRC with 5 different modes, including a launch control mode. No additional infotainment stuff such as MyLink in it, and no navigation either.
In PTM 4, it blends like a champ
Price tag is 54,995 with delivery, handful of options from polished wheels to suede inserts are extra.

Yes
No
Camaro team is pretty confident that despite the GT500's extra hp, they still won't beat it.
how long until the goodies like the suspension parts hit the lower models?
The strut tower brace and revised suspension is available in the FE4 package.
Interesting note, they found that the sway bar design in the rear was not up to snuff for the ZL1, so they put in a longer bar and put the sway bar links closer to the wheel. They also revised the rear toe link and rear subframe bushing to handle the power. The revised sway bar design is part of the FE4 package, but will not be available on the V6 because of the sliding piston would actually hit the link in the case that the owner waits too long to replace the rear brakes...yeah, they tested for that.
The "14 bolt" cooled rear diff will be an option in the future, but not from the factory. GM will sell the rear diff set up, including the stronger and different diameter CV shafts as a kit for people who want to put some power to the ground
Will they actually make enough of them?
Define enough?
What is mrc?(serious)
Mike said it, but Magnetic Ride Control. Instead of filling a shock with gas or hydraulic fluid, they fill it with a viscus fluid that contains tiny iron particles. The piston inside the shock has an electromagnet that can adjust the viscosity of the fluid by varying the current going through the EM. This system was put on Cadillacs to improve ride nearly a decade ago, then C5 had them as an option, then Delphi/GM leased the tech to Ferrari which used it in the new 599 GTB. At the time, it was thought that the shocks could not handle the load of racing and that they would over heat or malfunction. Well, Ferrari made it work, so GM went ahead and revised it to fit in the Corvette ZR1 and then the second generation CTS-V's. The ZL1 is the first car to have the third generation system that has a much faster processor and software mapping to have up to 5 different modes, including a launch-control mode that can make you launch like a top fuel master.

Enough as in demand won't be so ridiculous that dealers gouge on pricing. It will happen in the beginning but does Chevy plan on building as many as they can sell?

Gouging is going to happen. Even when Camaro was at full tilt, outselling Mustang, there were mark ups. I will ask if there will be a limited number or what

When you get in, suspension is already set to Sport, not Touring which I thought was funny since the CTS-V always starts in Touring.
I kept it in PTM 3, which turns of traction control, but leaves stability control in optimal dry conditions. They said that they wish it was raining because the rain mode is "impressive".
That said, in PTM3, car spun first, second, by third it settled down.
I did not try out the launch control, but that will be tomorrow.

LSA correct? is the motor identical to the CTS-V? any other upgrades done or different tuning? I think i remember you saying it had >556 hp, so that means its at least somewhat different that the cts-v lsa.

Suede inserts are optional, steering wheel has a flat-bottom, shifter is different.

580hp due to better exhaust design compared to CTS-V. Same reason that the CTS with the LFX makes less power than a Camaro with the same LFX. Still an LSA

Brian, since the 2012 model run will only be so long, there will be a limited number for 2012, but only because the model year. They will make as many as they can sell, there will be no limited number per year.

Got it. So the guys that gotta have it first will get hammered with the pricing but hopefully it will calm down after the initial run.

I say yes.
My question is how loud are these camaros from the exterior with the butterflys open?
BigAls87Z28
02-28-2012, 08:16 AM
Loud. Even sitting there, the car is noticiablly louder than the SS cars. The exhaust, while routed almost the same, doesn't have the center resonators nor the big utter mufflers. They said, if you open the butterfly valve, you could roll a golf ball all the way to the cat without hitting anything.

On this note, how come SS cars are about 4x quieter than say, an Escalade?

How you seen the amount of exhaust tubing, resonators, mufflers, cats, flux capictors and misc nonsense GM likes to cut the balls of their cars with thrown under these barges?

Yes, that's what confused me. I understand stock cars are not supposed to be loud, but when it's marginally louder than a Prius and shamed by an SUV from the same company. Mustangs and the Challengers you can sort of hear.

in general, comparing the new one to a previous gen, sound deadener, a fairly beefy structure (5 star crash rating, etc.), big wheels, big tire, a pile of air bags.
this car appears to add ~200 lbs to that of a similar S. bigger brakes and I'm guessing the mag shock stuff adds weight. and the lsa motor is heavier too.

But that much weight? Really? Wasn't an LS1 car like 3400 or so, with 17" rims?
Anti_Rice_Guy
02-28-2012, 02:56 PM
Granted it was on a transfer station scale, but with me in it, the vert weighed 3800 even. With 1/8 tank of gas. Everything to possibly make it heavier except 17" wheels. and obviously an iron block.

So your vert was 3750 curb weight? I stand corrected.
Seriously though, I get that cool stuff weighs more like rotors, calipers, and big wheels. But that's really beefy for a car built for handling.
Anti_Rice_Guy
02-28-2012, 02:59 PM
Well you have to take out ~150 for me. 3650 with minimal gas. And again, it's a transfer station scale so it may not be perfectly calibrated for lower weights.
I know transampete had his car's race weight at 4200 but that was an ls1 ws6 6spd with aftermarket rear, cage, nitrous, heavy wheels.
BigAls87Z28
02-28-2012, 09:28 PM
Yikes, alright...well
Camaro SS is just under 3900lbs, so it's an addition of 200lbs.
MRC shocks weight more, larger brakes and calipers, larger 14 bolt iron rear end, thicker roll bars, larger and HD CV axles, supercharger with cooling systems, larger radiator, and overall revised and strenghtened chassis parts.
That adds up to 200lbs.
