Quick question- did GM make more than one type for the LS1? If so, can I run different kinds? Need to replace one, and don't know which one to order as there are multiple listed on SDPC's website. The one I found on LS1tech is part number 12573949. Can anyone help confirm if this is correct? My local dealer is useless, I'd rather circumvent them and confirm here. I trust you guys more than them.

Thanks

Jake

Early LS1s used a composite gasket, later ones were built with MLS gaskets. I am pretty sure that center bolt heads can use either style, but perimeter bolt heads require the composites.

Thanks Artie, that answers it. I need the MLS gasket.

I think the composite and MLS gaskets also had slightly different compressed thicknesses. I wouldnt mix and match the two types, but it sounds like you originally had MLS gaskets on your car, so replacing 1 head with MLS would be fine.

The head gaskets were replaced by TTP, so I'm assuming they used MLS gaskets if those are the newer style.

From what I remember, the MLS head gaskets have a small (metal) tab that sticks out between the head and block you could look for to verify.
