Hey all,
Just doing a little research here. My wife might be interested in trading in her Jeep. It's an '03 Liberty Limited with under 46K original miles. She's the original owner - bought it new in September of 2002 right after we got married, so I know the miles are real. It has leather seats (fronts are heated/power), power sunroof, 4 wheel disc brakes ('02s and some early '03s had drums in back), and the Infinity sound system. It also has upgraded 17" wheels from an '06 Liberty Limited and the Mopar rubber floor mats because I can't leave anything alone. :)

So, where do I go to find out if we're not going to get ripped off at a dealer for trade-in? I already searched Autotrader.com for low-mileage '02-'06 Liberty Limiteds, and depending on the year and mileage they are priced anywhere from $11K-14K. How much do they mark up a used vehicle sale? If we could realistically get a good number for it, we might trade it in. Otherwise, we'll keep it as a spare vehicle. I've heard most dealerships use the Galves book, but I don't know anyone with access to one. Maybe one of you in NJFBOA-land can hook a brother up? :)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Steve,

Send me the VIN in a PM, I'll see what I can do.

My wife and I were looking at vans a while ago and talked to a dealership about trading in our 2004 Liberty Limited. Kbb and Edmunds both listed trade in value at $6500 - $8000, the dealership offered us 3,500. It had just shy of 100k miles has a few scratches and apparently the wheels were swapped with a base model Liberty. I would consider it in average condition. We still have the jeep and bought a van elsewhere.

I have an '04 renegade w/leather..fully decked out..lifted which will probably subtract its value. I bought it in 2008.5 w/39k miles...1 owner mint/stock for 12.5k from dch acura. As steveone stated $6000 would be the price i'd expect for a trade in now, granted it has 85k on it..but you'd probably get more right before winter. Remember, its more of a seasonal vehicle. I'd advertise it in the fall privately for 8.5-9k and would guess you can unload it rather quickly. Retail i'd think it would go for 11-12k. $3500 is ridiculous..remember you have all the bargaining power..go at months end when these guys need to acheive numbers for sales quota's...inform them you have a trade in offer from another dealer for 6 and see if they can better that. W/incentives w/o a trade they'd knock 3k off regardless so coming up w/another few g's should be easy for them to do if they want a sale. Personally, your miles are low, libbys are fairly reliable (had to already replace my 42rle trans under warranty already) and its a perfect car for someones daughter/son for college for 4 years...worthy buy...good luck.

Advertise it on: jeepkj.com or lostkjs.com..both forums dedicated strickly for libby's.

Thanks for the insight guys, I'll definitely keep it in mind. I also forgot to mention it has the 3.7 V6, 45RFE auto trans, NP242 transfer case (2WD, 4Hi, 4Lo, and Full-time 4WD) and no ABS.

Chris, thanks for the offer, I sent you a PM. Dave, I'm a member on jeepkj.com and also jeepforum.com, so I might advertise over there if she decides to sell privately. And Steve, I can't believe they lowballed you that much on your '04! If they offered that low for her truck, I think my wife would start looking like the girl in the Exorcist and she'd be yelling lots of obscenities in Italian. :)

Your probably looking between $7-$9k trade-in. Kelleys Blue Book is way off and their trade-in value is closer to retail. NADA is about the closest thing to realistic trade-in value.
When I was trading my T/A most dealers were within 500 + or - of NADA. Sounds and looks like a nice truck. Good luck either way you go.
