While throwing nonsense back on the car the other day, I paused and thought, "Should I order a MWC front bumper support?" Cost $150, weigh 4lbs, and supposedly it takes a decent while to receive. With that said, worth it for this streetcar, or just run this thing?

Define "hurry." I looked back and saw that Smash recently got one too. Any idea on realistic turnaround time between payment & delivery?

Valid, I suppose.
Again, this isn't a race car. It barely sees the road, yet alone the track. Then again, that logic hasn't stopped me from doing engine mods either, I suppose.

So, I swung by Wsex's house after work today and picked up the foam portion to his old bumper support. I think he was under the impression that the NCAA pool was still in swing, and that he could win some favor somehow, because he gave it to me gratis. Of course, I wasn't about to correct him and high-tailed it out of there!
http://imageshack.us/a/img22/2190/0415131734.jpg
I already resolved that the MWC front bumper support wasn't worth it for me on this car, but to satisfy my curiosity, I went ahead and weighed the stock stuff.
If the interwebs are correct, then the MWC front bumper support weighs approximately 4-5 lbs.
I weighed the stock foam and it was 5-6lbs.
The metal portion (with the T/A fogs still on) measured 16lbs.
So, from the factory there are 21-22lbs up there. With 5-6lbs of foam that can be removed for free, if the risk is worth it to you. Personally, I just through the new, non-cracked foam on, cleaned up & sanded the rust off the metal support bar, and gave it a quick spray.
I don't care if no one will see it, I will feel better knowing there is a hair less rust, and a touch more purrrdy, underneath there

Weld the exhaust up.
Wiper assembly.
Possibly change oil pan gasket
Weld in floors then subframe connectors.
Swap 4channel ABS block to 3channel & rebleed.
Install "Chris1313RA" Ram Air.
Throw the heat-shields back on.
Have it painted.
Install body panels.
Reinstall interior.
...I would like to change the v6 evap box and install my v8 one in, so I can run my AC. As well as swap out my valve covers to the new ones that I polished, and purchase/install some nice, shiny Stainless Steel headers. However, we'll see if I get there or not. I tend to get side-tracked with these "While I'm at it" things.

No, I don't want you breaking another transmission.
------
So, a small quandary. The chassis is a '95 V6, the motor/trans are a 2000 LS1/4L60e. The transmission crossmember is from neither.
The problem I encountered today was that I noticed, when putting the poly trans bushing on, that the center hole in the transmission cross-member is roughly 1-inch closer to the nose of the car than the center hole of the bushing. Does anyone have any experience, or links to any bookmarked resources, that deal with this quandary?
I've temporarily settled on throwing the beat-up stock rubber piece back on, and sliding it forward to align with the hole. However, the bottom half of the bushing is obviously not in alignment with the top half, and their respective recesses. I'm not sure how this will actually do when put to the test (if that day ever comes :p) but I'd like a better designed solution.

Dear Abby,
I realized that this thing may be a mild pain in the pooper to replicate, due to the varying geometry all around.
I need to move the hole about 1.25" further towards the rear of the car. So rather than cutting and welding an extension on, should I just bend the lip straight? I believe that if I can bend the area between the blue Painter's Tape out 90*, I can just drill a new hole and be done. Would I be jeopardizing the integrity and strength of the crossmember by doing this though?
Cut 2 slits, bend out, have someone weld a flare on each end of the bend to reconnect everything?

Thanks for the tip, Adam & Bill. As for Bill's suggestion of welding an extension on to this xmember, wouldn't some of that vertical wall need to be cut, or at least bent, to allow for access to the center bolt/hole that the trans mount bushing connects to?

Hopefully I'll have some more later this week, but for now I'm just typing to share my excitement in clearing a hurdle (And because it's been dead in here lately...)
-----
Does anyone else have a Wall of Shame? I've begun decorating mine as of late. Here's your story for the day:
So, back in October, there was a little mishap with a certain stubborn dipstick and a certain stubborn dipshet. Long story short, I was left with a dipstick sans a few inches.
http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/t623/JerseyMike1/20131008_181326_zpse587bcf9.jpg
Petrified that there may now be a chunk of steel dipstick in my oil pan, I decided to explore...
I searched all around the car, the ground and in random crevices of the undercarriage to see if I got lucky and it was somewhere outside of my motor. How foolish. My optimistic childish naivety makes me chuckle.
I tried going in through the dipstick hole with a tiny, tiny magnet. No dice.
Drained the oil, hoping the magnetic drain bolt would have attracted the piece and saved me. Negative.
Perhaps it came out with the oil? Nope, nothing in the drain pan but clean, fresh, unused motor oil... also known as "Money down the drain" in the UK.
Went in through the drain bolt hole with the aforementioned Midget Magnet, and tried with grabber tool as well. Couldn't feel anything.
Acquired big ol' magnet and scanned it across the bottom of the pan, in hopes that if there was anything in there, I could drag it to the exit point & retrieve it. Mildly clever, but still no dipstick end.
Hmm... "Maybe I got lucky? Maybe it ISN'T in there!"
...That delirium was short-lived; I know my luck. Fast forward to May:
The weather has greatly improved but my peace of mind has not. I couldn't comfortably go forward with running this car again without knowing for sure there is nothing in there.
I disconnected the pan and let it hang. I was hoping that, if there's a dipstick end stuck in the hole/pan/block somewhere, that perhaps creating separation between the pan & block would either dislodge the sucker or allow me a visual of the piece/room for pliers. Still nothing.
This left me with no choice: I had to pull the pan off.
After attending a local car show as motivation, MyFirstZ and I took on the task Sunday afternoon. Looking back, it wasn't that awful to do: Removed the compressor & alternator, the horizontal motor mount bolts, hoisted the motor up via the front of the heads, and dropped the K-member.
We got the pan off without much fuss, and inspected it. Nada! Okay, this is good!
http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/t623/JerseyMike1/20140518_162733_zps0a9a8760.jpg
Removed and checked under the cover/[splash guard?] and still found nothing! "Well, I guess I was just paranoid! At least I now KNOW there's nothing in there. It was worth it, I suppose..."
http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/t623/JerseyMike1/20140518_162715_zps1330fe3c.jpg
15 minutes later, as we go to re-install the pan, an accidental flashlight beam and the corner of MyFirstZ's eye caught an object peaking out through the Windage Tray. I damn near shat myself. I couldn't have been more happy than I was at that moment. It was barely poking through, right here where I've set the pick:
http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/t623/JerseyMike1/20140518_163622_zps20c8af7c.jpg
I found the piece, threw it in a spare junk-frame I had, and added it to my Wall of Shame collection.

Yes, interior is going back in. When Mr. Grazi's appointment book opens back up, the carpet will come back out and the floor patches (courtesy of V) and the subframe connectors shall get welded on. I'm debating sound deadening some of the car, at that time (on the fence). I have my LS1 honeycombs that will go on. I've kept the V6 tails and wheels on for the time being, as there is no need to put the nice stuff on until after the car has been properly painted. Let this stuff get banged & nicked up, no poops given. Granted, I will be temporarily throwing the real wheels and tires on for a final alignment, but they'll be coming off thereafter.
Matt, if I decide to go that route I'll reach out to you. Thanks.
Since the thread is already on the radar, I may as well update a few things. Just rattling a few things off the top of my head:
Alignment done. Steering wheel no longer upside down.
BLS headlights are fired up. Granted, I'll have to make 'em nice one of these nights via new lenses, shrouds, alignment & wire hiding. But, they look purdy after dark!
It's remarkable how much quieter this car is with a full catback on vs open-Y.
I have a tune file from Keith ("The Bishop") to throw on in the interim, to get the new Yank SS3600 properly acclimated. "Creeper" will be uploading it one of these days via his HPTuners software. Mainly just copying the trans tables over, to adjust for the addition of the converter. Will let a TTP/Cartek/Other do the final tune in due time.
We have brakes! ...Like, all of them! New rear lines, deleted the 4-channel stuff, new emergency brake cables, and a 3-Channel ABS block to go along. Still have to scan, diagnose & eliminate the "BRAKE" and "ABS INOP" lights that are on the cluster.
What's this "Service Vehicle" light? I'm working on it, car. Gimme a break! (Serious: Tips on scanning that? Standard OBDII wouldn't read that light, correct?)
Gotta re-check the "Service Engine Soon" light. Last I recall, it's for the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, which I have stupidly forgot to install all those times the car was on the lift. Doh!
B&M 70264 transmission cooler needs to go on. Any one have a preferred pictorial they'd care to share?
Sway bar, new endlinks, new bushings all are on once again.
I somehow managed to make a TSP adjustable ORY fit on ARH 1 7/8" LTs. I don't know how or why this worked, but halleujah.
Tie Rod ends were more FUBARd than Mario WSSEX's car, so they were replaced prior to alignment. God bless you, Anthony. Guy did that one on his own--I wasn't even in the same state when that one happened
Seatbelts are about to go back in, likely early next week.
I noticed an oil drip last week while the car was on the lift. New pan & gasket were put on prior, so I'll check the OPSU and double-check the torq on the pan bolts. I noticed some oil on one of the starter bolts, so likely the source is higher up on the motor--Crossing every finger & toe I have that it's not a Rear Main Seal.
Stock valve covers are on, in lieu of the shiny polished ones, until the new Mighty Mouse polished catch-can goes on, down the road. (the polished ones do not have the rear PVC elbow that the my 2000 LS1 covers came with. I suspect these originally came off of a 5.3L) :bertstare:
I'd be an a-hole if I stopped here & ordered some CTS-V brakes, or a H/C/I package right now, right? ...Right? Please say "Right."
New weather stripping needs to go on around the T-Tops & Hatch. Any adhesive/paste/sealer that you guys recommend I apply, while installing?
This is never ending.

Is it a 3 channel rear end?

Is it a 3 channel rear end?
Yup. "Got a good deal on it!"
...then negated every ounce of "savings" when I had to buy an ABS block & fancy new lines. Is there a "Growing Pains" emoticon on this site yet? No? There should be.

Why would you waste time and effort with installing another OE ABS system...?
Prop valve and new brake lines all around, less than $100.

Is the service vehicle light the oil change reminder light? As in hold trip reset and turn key to run/not running and hold for 10?
Did you swap out the EBTCM for an EBCM? electronic brake traction control module
Are the pinouts the same?

I don't know if it's an oil change reminder, as that's not something I had considered, but we'll find out after I try that out!
As for the ABS Block: Off memory, here at work, I don't recall if the 3-channel block I purchased came with it's own EBTCM (er, it would be a EBCM in that case, I imagine?), or if I reused my 4-Channel one. My gut tells me the former, but I should still have the original at home for reference. I'll double check this as well.
I appreciate the tips! I forgot how nice it is having multiple perspectives attacking an issue.

Not sure if LT1 later model stuff (which had 4 channel ABS ASR etc) is similar to the newer standard issue 4 channel LS1 stuff, but, I know on my car, the system propagates into the main body harness. Its not just a plug and play switch.

Most gm cars and trucks would be fully depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds of ignition on.
The ls1 fbodies are as follows:
Follow this procedure to reset the engine oil life monitor:
Turn the ignition to RUN (engine off).
Press the TRIP/OIL RESET button on the instrument panel for 12 seconds. The OIL CHANGE light will start to flash to confirm that the system is reset. The reset is complete when the OIL CHANGE light goes out.
Turn the ignition OFF.

Mild update:
Alignment was done a couple months ago with the factory 16s on. Thereafter, I put the staggered 18-&-19's on and went for a few test drives. The rears rubbed against the fender so badly that I could not even drive the car over the slightest of bumps. When time finally allowed, I rented an Eastwood fender roller & purchased some new Konis to get rid of the old V6 DeCarbons. Bolted everything back together, gained a considerable amount of room of fender clearance, went for a drive, & sure enough the rubbing was gone! Hallelujah! One problem: Between the quarter panel rolling & removal/reinstall of rear suspension components, the alignment is all f'd up again. Gotta get the car on the rack & fix that now that the rear end is all finalized & the wheels have been mounted.
Still have a few small things to address, then send her off to the exhaust shop to get the new exhaust tips put up & everything tucked up for a little more ground clearance, before going off to Inspection & Paint. The progress is... progressing

So, about this....

Bueller?
Also:
I need to pick up a pair of NPT-to-barb fittings for the tranny cooler. LS1 and 4L60E... does anyone know (off the top of your head) what exact size I need? I believe I'm going to bypass the factory cooler all-together. As always, links earn your a special place in my heart  Can of Transmission Cooler flush prior to install: Yay or nay? (Plan to purchase unless I hear a good reason not to)
Thanks!

The DRL issue is an odd one. I want to say they may be on different circuits (DRL vs Headlight on) so you may want to get a test light and confirm. How do your bulb sockets look? Most of them get burnt after a while so its worth checking.
sweetbmxrider
06-25-2015, 09:27 AM
Does the turn signal work when the left turn signal is on? Yes? Drl module looks like culprit. No? Bulb is new? Yes? socket/power feed issue. Get your test light and see.
