So I'm almost at the end of my deployment and I've got some money to spend. Looking to get into an LS1 SS Camaro, has to be a 6 speed. I've been looking around but haven't found anything that looks too great. I'm looking to spend no more than 12K, and for 12 it better be pretty nice. I found this...http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/3007159222.html...not even sure if it'll be around when I get back (end of June). Just wanted some opinions on it or if you know of a better car on the east coast, let me know.

Meh, 10k for 117K SS with no *good* modifications isn't that attractive.

For that 12k, you can probably find something in a rare color and in great condition, or a nice "traditional" color with some quality pieces. Are there any criteria you're looking for? If I come across something that fits the bill, I can post it up here for you.

So its $9900 plus what "some" he still owes on it? Doesn't sound too promising to me.

I've always had good luck finding cars in Long Island as far as pricing. I got mine out there for 8750$ /w 61k miles 2-3 years ago. Basic bolts ons. But you should be able to get a lower mileage for 12k. Don't settle on the first thing either.

In my opinion, if you're going to spend that kind of money you might as well get a better looking car so, you should be looking for a Formula or a Trans Am!:-P

IMO, the hardest part about finding a clean F body (or any vehicle) is finding one someone didn't fugg all up.

Vette's are lame:facepalm:

you can find what you are looking for. it is just going to take some looking and looking at a bunch of different ones till you find the right one. It's just that this is the time of year for our cars to sell so the prices are a little swollen

You can find it, but it takes time. Finally found mine after doing daily searches on Craigslist in my area for a year... but I found the car- a 39,000 mile SS Camaro Convertible, NBM. I paid 12,450 cash (taxes included), plus I traded in my 2000 Z28, Pewter Metallic (101530 on the odometer though).

Oh... Get the SS... Corvette's are too "common". I see many more of them on the road out here in California than I do Camaros, hence the reason I chose to stay Camaro, when I could've gone C5 Vette. Just my .02

That is a great deal.. I hated those wheels as well until we picked up our Vette and it has the Chrome version. Now I love them. You can get a set of Y2K wheels for around 300.00 on the Vette Boards.

I'm not a vette guy. What is wrong with a 99? or a 97 Is it just those years or all C5s?

Slow-V6
05-29-2012, 07:46 PM
97 was the 1st year of the C5 and I believe you do not want to get a 1st year of any car!! I for one dont care and if the car runs good then who cares? The 99 I have no idea. I know they had the Fixed Roof Coupes in 99 but other then that I dont know what is wrong with a 99?

Its a SS with 64,000 miles on it... If it were a Z28 with 120,000 miles I would agree but that SS is in very nice shape.

It also has the 93-96 Tail lights on it..

99 is fine. Ignore 97 and 98. But mainly because of the heads.

$3700 thats rough. He was asking $8500 and I figured there would be wiggle room but not a 56% discount.

lol

So you wouldnt buy a 97 or 98 Vette because of the heads?? If you could get a 97 Vette for 10,000 or a 01 Vette for 20,000 and they both have the same miles and options you wouldnt get the 97 because of the Heads?? I would not care. 241 casting vrs 853 casting its still a LS1. Thing that hurt the older LS1's is the rod bolts if you want to make 500hpish. If your like me and just wanted a Vette to cruise and do bolt ons I dont care what year C5 it is as long as its a good deal.

go price a replacement t-56 and you'll see why. even used six speeds can drop some pockets fast. 8500 for a 98 with mods and a broken manual trans. seems like a recipe for a car that wasnt driven much but when it was it was driven hard. even in running condition that car would be a hard sell for 7 grand. id say cash in hand that car would be worth 6-6500. if it was an 01-02 then you might be able to pull 8500, but not for a 98.

Correct. I would not buy a 97 or 98 vette. Or a 98 f-body. I also said MAINLY before I said heads. There are other small things that I I would prefer to have or not have in my cars that those years don't accommodate
