View Full Version : Cadillac Brougham Sleeper Project...

Been thinking hard and long about a sleeper project and what it could be. The typical beat up Nova or whatever is so cliche that it's pathetic.
But I figured out the perfect sleeper car project: Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, you know - the 4 door land yacht that is about 30' long. There is one in my complex and did research and found out that the 1992 (last year) had a 350 and a 700R4, which is an easy swap to say an LS2 or LS3 with motor work and a 4L60E. They weigh about the same as a new 5th gen stock, but I'm sure you could get 300lbs out of one without hacking it up too bad (the LSX is 150lbs itself). Add some nitrous and you could have a 700hp ride that will seat 6 and would pass for grandpa's. I would have the curb feelers, chrome ladies on the grille, limo tint, and a big system - like it fell out of 1990 or so.
Thoughts?

I remember seeing that car - old school Caddy V8, but still beat everyone in 2002...

Thank you for the offer, but this is going to be a winter project as I need to get my Camaro running soon and need to get another car for the business.

Not really a problem at all.

Yea, an old friend of mine had a '94 Fleetwood Brougham with the LT1 / 4L60 combo. Even stock it got out of it's own way pretty nicely considering it's size. Same friend also had a '73 El Dorado with a 500" Caddy.
Sounds like a fun project.

When I used to go to Englishtown there was a guy that ran an older Fleetwood. I don't remember the times but it was pretty fast for a boat.
We used to work on them fairly often when I first started at the cadillac dealer. There are still a few regular customers but nothing like it used to be. I would much rather have a 93+ tho, I like the body style on them better.

Probably just as fast as an LT1 Impala SS...

Stevoone,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the 93 and up have a Caddy motor, not a Chevy 350?
I'd rather be sleeping and pimping with a 92 than just pimping in a 93.

The late 80's and early 90's had either a 305 or a 350 tbi. The 93 came with a tbi or the lt1 (pretty sure it's an lt1. Same opti setup as the f-bodies). and the 94-96 came with only the lt1. I like them both but personally would rather have a 93+.
The 93-96 body has a lot in common with the b body cars (impala, caprice, whatever else was a b body). I put a set of B body hooker supercomp headers on a 94 fleetwood. For a big car like that they really haul a**. And they float down the road just like the older ones.
Just make sure it's a Fleetwood Brougham and not a Deville Fleetwood. You could get the Deville with a Fleetwood package but that was the fwd with the 4.9 caddy engine.
Here is the difference.

Pretty much. Back in 1999 I had a '96 Impala SS, and it used to run 14.6s at 90ish mph with nothing but a K&N FIPK and Flowmaster cat-back. And the big cars can be set up to handle decently - use a big 2nd-gen F-body swaybar up front and a Hellwig rear bar, with some good shocks and springs. Plus, if you go to http://www.bigfastcar.com/default.asp you could get yourself a bolt-in 6-speed setup for some real fun! :)

I saw that and instantly thought "80's action movie". All it needs is two mustachio'd guys with ray bans and cheap suits.

someone must have overheard my wish list for my 85 buick, except i want a 572.
i see a gold-ish roadmaster in a body shop on 579 (hunterdon cty) with fancy black rims, big tires, and all tinted out. looks pretty cool.
not for nothing, but motor trend stated the 5.7 roadmaster is faster than the imp ss. 7.1 vs 7.5 to 60. talk about sleeper! then again buick is always brushed under the rug as they quietly vacuum the doors off of the competition. GSX/GN/GNX anyone?

Big show, you are right - that would be a perfect sleeper, even better than the Caddy I was thinking of...
I think that Buick has the reputation of being for older folks, but on the other hand, most people looking quickly could easily mistake a GS for a Chevelle. GN and GNX were fast, but Buick got lucky on that - the pre 86's were not intercooled and were not able to run with the Corvette, LB9 f-bodies, or Mustangs of the time. The 86 cars blasted everyone else into the weeds, GNX even more so...
