So heeres my problem. I posted a few weeks ago about my 3.8 having a lifter tap. Well it turns out my car possibly has a bad cam and basicly I need a new motor. Now the help I need is moneys tight and I need to find a resonably priced motor for my firebird. If anyone can help me out id really apreciate it. Also if I can find one and anyones willing to give a hand with the swap let me know. Thanks guys.

I bought one for $250 from a f body salvage yard in florida - it was a complete engine.

I think shipping was around $100.

I then sprayed the junkyard engine and clicked off low 12's

Who diagnosed it as being possibly a bad cam and needing a new motor?

basically the car has almost 170k miles, the engine needs many different things and the price to rebuild it is much more then buying a used 3.8 out of someones wrecked car or something they are parting. it is fixable, not completely shot, but just not worth putting a fortune into when you can find a used good running 3.8 laying around for a few hundred bucks, take a day and just swap the engines and be done

Njbadss basicly summed it all up. I thought about harrys but my brother was there not to long ago and he said all they had basicly were the 3.4 v6 cars. but idk. I'm hopeing to find a decently price motor somewhere.

When is the last time that you were there and saw a 3.8? I would consider going and yanking one out, but most every 4th gen there last time i was there, about a month ago, was 3.4.

Well, if you want a 3.4L with K-member (don't have to deal with lifting motor/trans up & out, undoing motor mount bolts, etc) I have one one for sale (for cheap) right up here in North Jersey...

Obviously, I'd try to get a 3.8L first. But if you want a 3.4L, already assembled on K-member, control arms, steering rack, and brakes... (think easy install)... for a steal of a price, then shoot me a PM.

wouldn't work mike. they use a diff transmission. the 3.4 is a 60degree engine where as the 3.8 is a 90 degree engine.

Also a 3.8 from a Grand prix or what not will work as well. Just have to swap on your intake and might have to move the coil packs around as well.

I got a complete 3.8 from a junk yard in fredricksburg VA called M&M back in 2002 for 700.00. The motor have 8,000 miles on it and came with everything. Just like James I sprayed the piss out of it!!
